Have a 100 series with 18 inch rims. The original coating on the rims is flaking and peeling off. Personally, I like the original color of the rims so haven't given much thought to having them powder coated. I've spent the last couple years searching the classifieds and haven't found another set close enough to make the cost + shipping doable to purchase.

Thinking of just powder coating them black. I've read somewhere that the powder coat will not adhere to the same places where the OEM coating is already flaking/peeling.

Anyone have experience with this or know enough about the PC-ing to weigh in on how to prep the surface to prevent future flaking/peeling?

Youd need to have them stripped or blasted before powder coating.

You may get nice results by just sanding down the bad spots, rough up the good spots, and rattle can them nicely.

I though about spraying them but figured I'd go ahead and try PC if going through all the trouble to remove tires. It's not a daily driver so I can put up on stands in the garage for a few days.

Any place worth their salt will include the sane/media blasting of your wheels in the price, which should be about $100 per wheel for an 18" rim. If you live in a more remote area try to find a shop in a major city. Best place to start looking would be a place that does lots of wheels for younger modified car guys. Always worked for me, they have a huge color selection and do enough wheels to usually be flawless or darn close.
