Hi, first i dont have much knowlege on 100 series land cruisers but i do own a 1998 5speed supercharger 4x4 4runner.

So i need another car and 4runners go too quck for me to get the nice ones in the phoenix area. This lead me to look into LC also. I found a 2002 gray 168k for ~7k. Seller told me over the phone it had a check engine light. When o got there truck looked pretty good. Some minor cosmedic issues be nothing some az pin stripping cound not take care of (kidding, buying rig to transport or baby but im sure i will test out the 4x4 once awhile). Anyway, test drove it. Trans shifts well but engine missfired at lower rpms. It has a blinking cel and codes 300 304 and 306. Any input on what can cuase this. Seller said gas might have gone bad feom sitting for awhile. Also the radiator was leaking. I put a $40 deposit on it. I plan on bring it to a shop tomorrow and getting a compression check done. If tbat looks good then new spark plugs and a new radiator. Should i be running towards or away from this LC?

Check plugs and coil packs. The codes are for cylinders 4 and 6 specifically, but I would check all. If it's just a plug/ coil pack issue, they are easy and relatively inexpensive to replace.

Cool, so no or little chance of big potential problems like head gasket?

Anything is possible. I'm no expert. Definitely do your due diligence and inspect as much as you can.

If they did not do any maintenance beware, spark plug is the easy part on the maintenance interval, do you know the last dealer contact?
My Subaru needs new plugs at 40k kilometers, I did not replace and it misfired at 82k.
Just to give an idea of scheduled maintenance opposed to wait and see what breaks.

A cheap obd reader might tell more about the codes.

Last time it touched a dealer was 2 year or ~8k ago.

looks good but it is a lot of nothing (dont want to nag)
cup holder :cheers::cheers:

I rather see belts, oil, diff oil, valves, engine and chassis stuff. light bilb is irrelevant.

injector flush bla is just a bottle of poison in fuel?

really sounds just like a common problem with the coils. Swap the coils from the bad cylinder to a good one to see if the problem follows. If it does, just replace the bad coil(s). 10mm socket and 5 mins. DONE!

Ha, yep either that door was in some ki
D of impact or someone threw up on thst side

So i brought it to a mechanic and they thought the chance of a hg failure was very real. Makes sense with the raditor leaking and the two cylinders being side by side on the same bank. I passed on it but still wonder how much $$$ and effort a hg repair or engine replacement is for one of these. There were also other issues found like possible steering leak and brake fluid leaks. Basically a unmaintained truck. Seller is still trying to sell it to me for 5k!

For 5K that gives you a lot left over to get the other stuff done. Is it a southern rust free truck and is interior in good shape? 168K miles is pretty low and while getting the other stuff done you can get TB, WP and heater T's done.

Ad looks like horse s***e if cel was on and blinking.

You could probably roll the dice at $7k on a rust free truck and still make out ok if you have some reserve money just in case in needs engine, cats, etc.

Let say it does need an engine. Where is it best to sort that from? I have a toyota mechanic that said he can replace the engine for $40 and hour.

I know it is a private sale ad. Did you look at that car at an used car dealer?

Nope but rig is parked behind a walgreens or something. Seller says hoa will not allow truck to sit infont of house. Not sure if that is bs or not.

Yep, i asked him about that. Said it was an old number but who knows. I agree shady. Anyway, if i can get this cheap i dont care what happened to it unless it was pulled from under the ocean. So im having a hard time finding info one where i could buy an engine. Be it used or new. Any help? :)
