Hey fellas! First off… thank you so much for all of your help. New radiator, hoses, and 82C thermostat came in and doing great on our first trip up. Didn’t have time to install the EGT gauge before we went so it’s at the garage to be installed as we speak. My mechanics are great and I really trust their work on my LJ78. They don’t see a lot of EGT gauge installs over here and seem to be wanting more info for proper installation. I gave them the instructions from Auber’s website, but was wondering if anyone had any info or videos relating to the post turbo install specifically that I could share with them. Purchased some LED interior lights from ODD IRON and the guys seem to love them. I haven’t seen them in action yet.

Anyways, as always, thanks a ton for all of y’all’s help. Truly couldn’t have gotten where we are without y’all. Here’s a pic from my last trip.

Nepal may the farthest our LED products have ever traveled. 😁

I would strongly recommend spending the extra effort to do a pre turbo install; post turbo numbers can vary wildly and are not nearly as useful for gauging how hard you're pushing the engine. The probe can be installed without removing the turbo; when drilling the hole use grease on the drill bit to help catch the metal shavings and have a vacuum nearby to suck up the rest. The same goes for tapping the hole for the probe. Any small metal shavings that fall inside will just get blown out through the exhaust, you can even have the engine running for the last bit of drilling to help blow the chips out.

Oh I see. I had searched this forum a ton and mostly saw POST turbo. Good to know. I’ll continue looking into it. As much advice as I can get is greatly appreciated!

pre-turbo vote #2

Pre turbo if at all possible.
I was able to drill out and re-thread a bolt hole for the heat shield and install the probe.
13bt engine thought.

Post turbo is useless, pre turbo is where you want your pyrometer.
