From what I gather it's for two 2.5 gal ones. That's a lot of weight bouncing around off a window... thoughts?

Yes, in a way that the window is not designed to deal with.

According to SeaSucker site:

SeaSucker's RotopaX Tank Holder - 5 Gallon is compatible with any RotopaX tank up to five gallons.

I read that as one 5 gallon tank with the standard hardware, but possible for use with two stacked 2.5 gallon tanks with additional extension hardware.

My bottom line thoughts so far is this 3-suction cup mount and extension hardware with two 2 gallon RotoPax would be fine mounted on the rear quarter window.

All that's left is for someone to try it.

I have buddy that runs two 3-gallon Rotopax on a Seasucker mount on the rear windows of his Jeep JL. We traveled 8-days in Death Valley in January and he was constantly attending the mount sliding down the window. It also fell off twice during the trip. I'm thinking about a similar mount for my Landcruiser and my plan is to secure braces up to my roof top tent platform so it has added support. Like you I need something but based on what I observed, it needs something in addition to the Seasucker mount alone.

Sounds like your buddy's set-up has 6 gallons on one SeaSucker mount - that's way above the rating for the standard mount with 2 suction cups, and even exceeds the limit of the newer 5-gallon mount that has 3 suction cups. Not surprised it was sliding down...

I like the idea of some additional support from the roof, though - any ideas there?

I think it's not a great idea for several reasons already pointed out
- Window glass wasn't meant to take that load. Over time and off-road, combined with possibly corrugations, I'd be concerned
- With dirt and silt, the flexible suction cup edges can possibly chafe the glass.
- To @NikP point, there's no hope to solidly mount on anything but a super clean vehicle once. Trying to re-stick on a trip can be hopeless with dirt and contaminates

Sure, there are drawbacks to the roof too, but it's more secure there.

A hitch mounted swingout might be an option too, but would be custom as there's no turnkey solution

One mount one each side of the vehicle. One 3-gallon can on each.

Got it, thanks. Were those mounts the 2 suction cup each mounts or the 3 suction cup mounts each?

TIA

I thought all were 2.5 gals. for a 5 gal. max. I'd feel more comfortable with two mounts one on each side (despite the cost) than one with extension.

Are they dual or triple suction cups for those?

I don't (and wouldn't) use suction mounts. I lay them flat on the roof rack.

Are they vented? Reason I ask is that with 22 hours of daylight June 21st, you don't want that cooking on your roof which will already radiate heat... I realize not everyone lives 65 North, but just asking...

I keep a 4.5 gal rotopax on the roof. I vent it daily if it swells at all, which means pulling it off the roof since they don’t self-vent. I find if I put 93 octane in it the pax typically only needs to be vented a couple times usually early on. Not sure why.

We're kind of in an unusual geographic latitude given the amount of sunlight we get so not sure I would want that on my roof with that amount of daylight. I will try and mount them just back of the rear window between it and the edge the hatch; thus on the body not glass

So was going to order two suction pads and two gas containers until they wanted $160+ to ship via UPS or FedEx. Told them if they can't ship via the PO for a reasonable price, I'll pass. Unbelievable

I don't see how a dual suction cup configuration can be stable. 2 points define a line, for which the load will constantly be moving about. Regardless of weight, I would choose the 3 suction cup (tripod) unit which would be far superior from a stability standpoint.

This could be an interesting option
