Hi all,
Since moving to NC and reading about it I've been wanting to do a trip to Portsmouth Island and I think this fall is the time to do it. Talking to guys who have made the trip before there after a hurricane a few years ago there are no cabins so we will have to sleep in tents or trucks. Also, by all reports there will be varying levels of bugs. The hope is by October this will have died down some but be prepared for this! We can coordinate on meals, I'd love to bring my boil setup for a low-country boil, but otherwise you should bring whatever you need to be self-sufficient. After coming along for a few trips I figured I'd try my hand at coordinating my own.
I'm wanting to do a trip out there with at most 5 other trucks, and am aiming at the first week of October with the days on Portsmouth Island being the 6th through 8th (Sunday to Tuesday) with catching a morning ferry on the 6th to the island, and returning Sunday afternoon. I'm flexible on this but I want to allow travel time with Charlotte being a good 6 hours from the ferry terminal, and I'm thinking that the island should be relatively deserted Monday (if it isn't Sunday too). Planning to camp somewhere along the way Saturday night and then wake up bright and early Sunday. Ferry service is available via Morris Marina, I've reserved the last 4 slots on the ferry!
My goal is to explore t̶h̶e̶ v̶i̶l̶l̶a̶g̶e̶ (nevermind it's not accessible from the ferry) and the island, maybe collect some shells, maybe fish, and have a good adventure! The fishing is supposed to be great but I haven't really done it, who knows the ropes and wants to come??
If you're interested reply and I'll add you to the list

If anyone else wants to come you definitely can you'll just need to catch a different ferry, but it sounded like there were a few single slots left are various times on Sunday.
