Finally getting some much needed rain and even a little snow up high.
Saturday, February 15, 2014

By far one of the biggest club run is the Mud and Snow Run. This is a great run for all types of rigs, though you may get a few brush scratches in the paint. Run will leave the Air strip at 9am so be early so you don’t get left behind. If you have one, make sure your CB works and that you bring your antenna. If you don’t have one get behind someone who does on the trail and make sure someone else is behind you. Bring warm clothes, Camera and some lunch. Post pictures up on IH8MUD after the run to share with those that did not make it. There is camping in the area if you want to go up early, post up where you want to camp and others may join in. Oak Flat is open year Round Check with forest service on which camp grounds are open.

Be sure to check the web site forum for any last minute instructions.

Here is the Forrest Service Link to the Area: Press Ctrl key and Left Click on your mouse to follow link

Directions:
North on 101
Take Hwy 20 East towards Clear Lake.
Turn off to the left towards Potter Valley.
Turn right on Eel River Rd (signs say Lake Pillsbury & there's a little store and bar there on the corner)
Go over main bridge after the turn off for the logging road to go on the county road.
Turn right onto county road after crossing the bridge over the Eel River.
Once you get to the 4 way stop at Soda Creek - turn left towards the lake and campgrounds and you'll run into the Gravelly Valley Air Strip and all the cruisers.

Allow at Least 1 hour 15 minutes from Ukiah Denny's per Tony ( takes me 1hour 25, but I drive slow). Fill up with gas in Ukiah if you need to.

For anyone that might be traveling up Hwy 29 to get to Hwy 20 instead of going up 101:

Big Jim and Holly will be our greeters at Judy's Junction in Upper Lake for breakfast at 6am.
If that's a bit early for the commuters, We will be leaving from the Chevron station at the intersection of 29 and 20 at 7:30 am.

See you Saturday.

So this will be the first run in my 40....I do now have a cb and my recovery gear is limited to tow straps. I drove it to Santa Rosa the other day from cloverdale and it was fine on the 101. Only cruise at about 60mph comfortably. My girlfriend and I will bring tools, lunch, warm cloths and extra gas (this 327 gulps it down)!

I have been looking forward to this for several weeks. Would it be possible to get someone's contact info just in case?

Cheers,
Dylan

Hi Dylan, We'll see you at the airstrip then. If you're looking for contact info as in cell service, Ross Woody is the only known man to get service in that country lol... You can probably get ahold of me at 707-245-6408 before 7:30 am. After that there's no guarantee I can hear the phone over the stereo, gears and tires at 60 mph. All 40s are different but it seems like 58-60 works for most.

Drive safe and we'll see you tomorrow,

Good time! Nice to meet some new folks and wheel with the club. Here's some pics from the day. I realize now that I had some gunk on the lens. Sorry it looks like a Barbara Walter's special.

That trail was my favorite from over 35 years ago. We drove full size pickups and I always remembered that steep ridge climb at the top. A very rare year to be up at 7000 feet this time of year. Glad you guys had fun. We did too.

And Alex showed some ummm courage driving an open 40 up there. That wind was cold up on top.
