hi gang, am fixing up a few minor items on a 2001 100 we bought. One important issue is the need to fill the four (I think) mounting holes atop the rear tailgate lift hatch for the wind deflector. While our car doesn't have the deflector (which is fine by me) it has open holes that need to be filled. Does anyone have a recommendation for screws/plugs to cap those holes? Dealer tells me it's only sold as the whole kit. beyond just using stainless screws from home depot (or nylon ones) are there any good fixes you have used? Thanks!

Can you post some good up-close pics of the openings and also one showing the gap between the exterior sheet metal and the actual threaded hole the must be sealed? Also, what is the exact diameter of the opening?

I have wanted to do away with my OEM air deflector for quite some time but I have yet to see what the situation is going to look like once I start unbolding things.

OP ... you might try some rubber well nuts, stainless machine screws and washers. As you tighten the screws, the well nuts will expand to grip the hole and, for the most part, seal the opening. McMaster carries these, but they also can sometimes be found at Lowe's or Home Depot.

Good solution.

Here is mine, off while cleaning.

good call on the well nuts, will try that solution, thanks for the suggestion...rob red, thx for posting pics for me (i was actually away for a few days, so this was a big help!

I put in stainless pan or button head screws, then used touch-up paint over the stainless so they blend better, then RTV the joint to keep water out.

Let me know if you do remove it. I'd gladly take the deflector off your hands for you.

Actually, the pictures show rivnuts in place. If this is the case, no need for the well nuts i mentioned. Simply put new hardware in the rivnuts and seal the threads with thread sealant and/or a rubber washer.

That's correct.
