Got hit today. Someone slammed me on the passenger side then I spun and hit someone coming the other direction. Tore apart the suspension, and driveshaft. Bed damage, topper, rocker panel, rear door.

I’ll play.

I vote no unless you see frame twist / different gaps between the bed & cab.

All the cab & front end looks fine aside from that rocker panel & door.

But I’d want a new axle if you take this back, I wouldn’t be surprised if the shell is bent on that PS axle tube.

If they do total it, it would be a cherry vehicle on one of those rebuildable vehicle sites. Assuming again no frame twist.

They book pretty high with the 5.7 even if you have alot of miles on it, to the point buying a bed, rocker panel, door, -even a axle housing & fixing the rear suspension won’t hit the “total it” -cost percentage IMO (uneducated opinion though).

You must be fine, so I’d sooner be worried about anything like neck/spine injury developing in the next few days - it looks like you took a “spin” wreck from angles & not a standard front/rear/T-bone.

Those “spin” wrecks are what torques the neck & spine, no airbag can really cover that.

Truck is in really good shape. 2012 with 60,000 miles.
It does look like the gap between the bed and body grew on the drivers side.
Tow truck driver said they see the broken driveshaft on a lot of Toyota trucks when involved in a rear-end collision. Odd.
And yes, I’m feeling fine, for now.

Nope.

Just went back and found that one of the tires had a huge gash in the side wall and the topper made contact with the top of the cab and put a good sized dent above the back window. Not sure if that means the topper flexed that much or the entire bed pushed up and went back.

Went to see if I should consider pulling the new tires that I just installed last week. Anyone have any thoughts on how that will play out w the adjuster?

I vote no, 2 years ago a drunk hit me in the same spot and flipped her car.

Simalar damage on my sequioa, was around 6k damage. Was pushing for a total but they said no

ya it isn't totaled, we had a tundra that had worse damage from running over one of those 1/2 inch thick road plates that pretty much ripped the axle out of the truck and it wasn't totaled.

Show the adjuster the reciept for the new tires. That adds extra value since the tires were so recent. If the truck is totaled they will pay that extra value.

They totaled it. Getting a pretty fair settlement, but only $250 for the tires. So may take those off and swap them to the 100. Now what do I buy?

Another Tundra of course.

I would swap the tires too if you are getting about half price for almost new.

If they hadn't totaled it, it would have worth less than blue book as the damage would be on one of many vehicle check lists online such as Carfax.

Yes, another Tundra. I just bought a new 4x4 5.7 tow package extended cab for $38K. But, here is a tip. I also bought an extended warranty.
That bum of a dealer sold me a non Toyota warranty. You know how it is, a normal person just wants to get the heck out of that hell hole, so I didn't pay attention, as tiny writing at the bottom of the page. As soon as I read everything I called Toyota Corporate.
Toyota takes pride in customer satisfaction. I now have a bumper to bumper Toyota warranty.

The corporate office made a little phone call to the dealer and that was that. Dealers.........."shifty eyes and bad shoes"

Good price on the new one !

When I bought my 2015 with 19K last June they tried to push the extended warranty. I did not listen long enough to hear who’s warranty plan it was. I am sure it was not Toyota. They wanted $2400 for eight years coverage, supposedly bumper to bumper.

The truck was Certified used (pre owned, lol) which gives me 100K for 7 years from when it was first purchased. Good enough for me.

Enjoy the truck and post pics!

I’m having a tough time finding what I want. Wish I could find an 18 but aren’t many left in the area.
Found a nice 15 Platinum w a small lift. Really clean but 80k miles. Should I be scared. I have a 100 Series w 170,000 miles and would drive it anywhere but I can buy a new Tundra for what this guy wants for the used one. But it wouldn’t have all the bells and whistles. I’m torn.

You didn’t have a Platinum before, I’d take the new truck & count yourself lucky they totalled.

Platinum might be nice, but new truck. <200miles.

What was the tipping point for being totalled? Was there frame damage? Otherwise it looks like a straight forward repair. Bed, bumper, rear axle, driveshaft, and some rocker body work.

and if they totalled it and gave you money for the tires, I doubt you'll be able to remove them. They are the Ins. companys tires now.

I don’t know that there was a tipping point. The top of the cab was damaged. the back door. The exhaust. The parking brake. Bump stops. Shocks. New topper I think it just all added up. They needed to have damage in excess of 75% of the value. Based on the numbers we discussed before taxes and fees it would need to be about $21000 in damage. It seems they hit that mark, or close, before even sending it to the body shop where they would have found more damage, maybe frame damage.
Regarding the tires, even though they just went on a week ago they were only giving me $250 for them. So if I swap them out they’ll take $250 off the check. This was discussed w the adjuster.

I mis wrote yesterday, reading scoutingranch’s post thinking it was you.

I would go for the new 18 and start fresh. 80k on a Tundra is barely broken in but new is nice.

I have the Limited double cab which is basically a leather SR5. The crew cab gives you sunroof option, folding mirrors, etc. It has the standard stuff and I don’t miss not having the bells and whistles at all. And my other car is a Lexus so I figured I would miss that stuff with the Tundra.

Mine’s just a TRD like your old one, with a couple stickers on the bed for the goofy RW pkg.

Aside from leather seats because my boxer’s hair is everywhere & woven into my clothes (boxer people know what I mean) - IDK what would be such a draw to get a Platinum now.

You already know “where” the front bumper is when parking, so sonar is a non-issue, and IIRC the ‘14+ all use that dash screen for the backup camera.

To me it’s a no-brainer to get the new one under a new Toy warranty- Does the Platinum have some exact feature you find you need?

I’d sooner pick all my mods like lift - my Tundra was owned by a friend so I know how meticulous he was, so I took it despite the 6” lift (to me a 3” Icon would be plenty).

And I had to buy a set of RW wheels since it has **really awesome** 20’s. :slap:
