While it may be possible, it will be very difficult. It is likely that you can arrange the crankshaft lobe to give enough room to get the piston to the bottom of the cylinder.

You're probably just postponing a complete engine overhaul.

Good Luck,

Nope. It can't be done.

Mark...

any other reasons the compression is at 40 instead of 150? i have ahecked that rocker arms and adjusted valve clearance...

Q #1 If i get a new Head Gasket, will it be broken down soo far that i will have to pull the engine to do it.

i guess i am looking for the "big picture" am i going to have to break it down eventually with compressions that low, even with a new head gasket. my rig has 240.700 miles on it.

Q #2 only # 3 is that low. i posted a message earlier abour poor gas mileage.

You do not need to pull the engine to replace the head gasket. Just the head, intake, exhaust, PS pump.

If the gasket is blown between two cylinders, say 3 and 4, both would have low compression. If it was blown any other way you'd probably have coolant in your oil.

Probably a bad valve. I just took care of a similar situation. 150 across the board except #6 was at 75 and no change with a wet test. Pulled the head and manifolds and had a complete valve job done. Cost about $380 for the head + machining of the manifolds. Runs like a champ since I got it all back together. Start with the head and go from there. Although possible, but rather unlikely, that one ring went bad by itself.
