Picked up rattle cans of dark blue (botom) and white (top) paint tonight, along with satin black for the mirrors, door handles, etc. Also got tape.

I'll spend tomorrow wirewheeling the really rough spots and hitting with heavy-rust brown Rustoleum. Then pressure wash adn dry the whole thing, then put it in the garage and remove what I can, and tape up everything else. Hope to shoot on Sunday. :)

Awesome. Love that color combination. It's gonna look great. I think you should keep the pig.

paint process underway, I spent most of the day grinding all th eloose rust off the drip rails and then cleaning it up thoroughly. I need to reseal the drip rail then start taping.

I really like the dark blue so I think we are doing the whole truck that color except for the roof in white (and maybe the hood.) Then i'll get some nice grey to pain the inside to cover up the rest of the olive.

Should look pretty decent from 20 feet. :)

Need some progress pics Dave!

I decided this morning to postpone pig paint, #1 priority is getting it in inspected on Thursday and I don't want to start taking parts and pieces off and potentially screw anything up or not get it back together in time (lights, etc).

It's started though, I'm resealing the drip rail and priming a few of the rougher spots today, I may even get the roof and hood painted (white) but the body of the truck will wait until after inspection. :)

Little by little...It will get done.
Patience grasshopper.

I know it is hard, (been there, still there too). Just keep doing a little at a time and when it is done you can enjoy it. You will look back and it will not seem like it was sooo long, although it does now.

paint party

this friday nite?
I will help if you bring it over:cheers:
pinstripe it saturday
shiny is for heeps:hillbilly:

Got the drip rail sealed back up last night, will spray it with brown (heavy rust) primer tonight. Wednesday night I drop it off at the garage for Thursday inspection {fingers crossed}

Put a bright light on the section of door I painted in the dark blue and REALLY like it. It's nice to see some gloss on there instead of flat, chalky camo paint,. :)

QUESTION:

Since he PO painted that camo on everything including the rubber window molding. Is there a way to get that off?? I'd like to get it clean and black before I tape it all off. Paint thinner on a sponge maybe? I don't want to eat any of it up as it's all pretty much unobtainium.

Ideas?

very fine sandpaper...or steel wool.

i would use lacquer thinner on rag

one more day til sticker... seriously... i cant take it... how many years since you have been in a rig you liked that you took on the trail? i dont count the maroon 62. i think the last time was when you had that tan 4runner with the skinny swampers on it!

thanks guys, I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. :)

fwiw, I've really liked every truck I've had, I just get "bored" easy and I've rarely ever had the cash to buy exactly what I want so every truck is a compromise in some way.

If I had it to do over again, I never would have got rid of the first 85 4Runner, the tan one. Though I did make a $1500 profit on that one. :)

Then again, I still live in my first house and never plan to leave (10 years so far) and my wife will have to kill me to get rid of me (13 years and counting) so it's really just trucks that I waffle on.

as for the paint, I didn't get to do anything last night, nor wil I tonight as 2 of my wife's gal pals rolled into town unexpectedly so she's been off with them each night and put me on full time daddy duty... which is all well and good, just that I had planned to be productive in the garage.

The roof is sealed though and I'[m going to get some primer on it tonight. dropping it off at the garage before work tomorrow is the plan now.

Just dropped it off at the garage, started up just fine and drove well, a bit like a tractor at slow speeds but that's to be expected I suppose.

Fingers crossed for inspection tomorrow.

I'll definitely need to upgrade the headlights, I put in new sealed beams but they are just weak.
