Hello,

I recently had one of those moments of stupidity and scrubbed a guard rail in my mint condition '06. It put a nice gash from bumper to bumper on the passenger side. Luckily the guard rail lined up perfectly with the ugly side molding. The body only got two little scratches, but the moulding is toast. I bought the truck for pure utility purposes, so I'm not super upset, but it still sucks. To be honest I always wanted to do away with the side moulding (and the whale tail) because I think it looks stupid and out of date, and I prefer the utility look. I looked through all the threads of people who painted the moulding trying to find pictures of the trucks with them off to see what it looks like under there. I know most people chose to paint them while on the truck, but does anybody have a picture of the truck with the moulding off after it got ripped off by a carwash, rock etc.? I'd like to see how many holes are in the body under there. Thanks.

Just do a web search for land cruiser 105. The 105 never had side molding. Here's an example:

The 105 does look good without the moulding. Best I can tell from the 2004 service manual is there appears to be 16 clips on each side to deal with. Which means 16 holes to patch. Two in front fender. Six in front door. Four in back door and four behind rear wheel.

That's 32 holes what will have to be welded closed and body work & paint. I believe it would be much cheaper to contact Beno or CDan and order new mouldings and clips and paint them black.

That's the information I was looking for, thanks.

Does toyota make a painted molding replacement for these? Mine need to be pulled and painted but if theyre not too expensive and are pre painted i may just buy some new ones.

Well i subsequently discovered a post that answers my question and it appears they do market pre painted molding pieces but they are about $800 from Beno. I cant spend that much so ill look for plan b.
