Does anyone have pictures of their winch setups specifically for a worm drive winch?

I'm reassembling my viking winch this weekend and doing a custom bumper at the same time so i hope to incorporate it all together. I've looked through a lot of the bumper pics in the tech section, but nothing with worm drives. The Viking was made by pierce so anyone with a pierce, thor, desert dynamics winches would be very helpful for ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Hi All:

A friend of mine has a Superwinch brand "Husky" 10K worm-drive electric winch mounted on his FJ60. To mount this winch he had a fab shop build extended front bumper brackets with a winch mounting plate included. So, nothing to fancy, just simple and beefy.

Regards,

Alan

mostly used 4" x 1/4" channel , braced up with some plate . these are just pictures i found on my computer i will get you some better ones tomorow , its dark right now .

run a piece of angle iron across the back just to hold everything together .

my setup is super strong , it doesn't flex at all . i ripped some bolts out of a winch bumper on a 83 chevy 3/4 tonne pulling him out by his recovery point with my winch set up . mine showed no signs of flexing at all .

so far i'm ran 1 1/2" x 3/16" Square tube across the front and back of the winch. I"m also doing a 4" tube bumper on the front at the same time so I will tie it all in with braces so that the bumper and winch mount are one piece. The problem i ran into is that the gear box on my old viking winch sticks out past the mounting plate on the front so it's a little of a pain to work around. I'm going to post pictures of the bumper/winch mount build soon.

Pictures of the near final product

This is the route i ended up going. So far I've got the bumper tube 2x4x3/16" cut and mounted using the original bumper brackets as templates and cutting new ones. The passenger side is only half a triangle because of the gear box on the winch is huge.

I used some extra from the bumper tube to cute mounts to make the winch mount. I still need finish all the capping with some 1/8" plate and some reinforcements. I moved the stock tow hooks out some so i will put a reinforcement underneath.

Last major thing to do will be to mount the roller fairlead, I think I'm going to put a piece of 1/4" plate on the topside of the bumper tube and angle it back to the winch mount to reinforcement. There shouldn't be any possible flex at that that I can imagine.

For the rear winch mount i used a piece of 3/8" angle iron with some tabs mounted and notched, if this flexes at all I'll figure out a new mount, this was the easiest way to go and I don't think there needs to be too much engineering on the backside of the winch.

Follow up

Thanks guys for putting some pics up. I ended up being really happy with what came out of this bumper and the worm gear winch, used it for the first time last weekend. Some sturdy mounting across the front and simple angle iron across the back and it held up great. I was dragging on the axles up a hill out of the creek and the winch didn't bog down at all. Here's some pics of the final product. I was also able to locate the solenoids at the level of the top of the radiator to keep them away from water and wired in a marine switch so i can switch from no power to just the ignition, or both the ignition and winch.
