Can folks please post pics of the front of frame without the bumper /bullbar on please? Mount holes, brackets and inner weld nuts would be great. I am restoring a damaged frame of a hj75 troopy which has been damaged and badly butchered.

Hopefully you so happen to be working on that area or recorded what you did in the past.
Thank you mud brothers.

Hope this helps.

Sometimes I see the reinforcement piece (arrow) present on one side and sometimes on both sides.I have not figured out the pattern yet. But I'm guessing it is present on the side(s) that have the tie-down point.

yes, I remember I have one on one side of the good troopy where the largest bumper mount bolt goes through without the weld nut.
haven't seen it on both sides before like yours.
how long will you have your bumper off? ( I may request some measurements please)
otherwise , carry on

Reinforcements were due to PTO/winch inclusion based on destination market/trim level.

So Beno, was there any special procedure for tempering your welds when you replaced your front cross member?

I can recall you using an arc welder which my lincoln powermig 180c should be able to handle, it can do 4mm steel comfortably. If anyone on mud knows, you do.
(Trusting all is in good health, without meaning to pry)

No sorry, when welding/ repairing frames in the past (like when you replaced cross member one), did you practice any tempering welding techniques, like fish scale weld pattern, oil quenching, specific weld length inch at a time?.
Probably should have started a new post, but I had you here.

Hello,

It appears both sides were reinforced sometime after 1992.

Chance, my 73 Series, does not have a winch, but it does have reinforcements on both rails. And provision for two tie-down hooks.

I’ve had a JDM ‘87 BJ74 w/ PTO winch and a JDM ‘88 without PTO or any winch and both had Right side reinforcement only.

I can’t remember if they had 1 or 2 tie down hooks.

We ended up adding reinforcement sleeves on both frame horn sides.
