We've had our 98 for 29 days now and the first mods have started!

I just had 5 of these put on yesterday. I wanted to post a pic for those who are trying to decide on a tire and want to see what it will look like. BTW... The spare fit with no problem.

Other mod was removal of gold package, and installation of factory chrome emblems, no pics of those.

now take those side steps off. looks much better without

Those were the same first 2 "mods" I did...take off the gold and add Nitto's! You are going to love those tires. I ran the 295's for a year before I added the OME lift. I am going to order a new set in a few weeks as mine have over 40k on them and have been abused pretty good! X2 on removing the factory running boards. Looks much better without and adds some "lift." FYI - I was able to sell mine on here for $100.

Anybody had these tires, this size, and the BFG AT's.....which are quieter and/or ride nicer on road?

I had both on my FJC. Hands down winner is the Nitto. Better ride, quieter, and IMHO just about as good off road.

Just passed 37K on the nitto tg 295.75.r 16. I wheel mine hard and had no complaints about the nitto. Great tire for CO and UT wheeling. I did puncture a sidewall in a mud puddle so I'm not sure what acrually stuck through. Got a new one with the road hazzard warranty. I just replaced the Nitto's w/ BFG AT's. 29575r16. They are about the same noise on the HWY. Nitto's were probbly still good for another 10k but living in the mountains it wasn't worth milkingn them another 6 months. I liked that the Nitto's were $1000 for all 5. BFG were $1000 for only 4. The BFG's "look more" agressive, but who's to say.

BTW You're rig looks just like mine did 3 years and $10k ago.

Your rig is looking good. I like those tires, I have the same size on my LX450. They have a funky smell.

Yeah, I remember when our 97 was stock, and the build-up process started!!!

You're right!! I can smell it everytime I step out of the rig!!

I think the forum could use a full detail report comparing the 2 tires in the Colorado snow conditions and pavement. Seems a lot have this question.

Fairnvail: Full write up BFG vs. Nitto

Offroadkid: They sure don't look like 295's - perhaps if the boards were removed?

Yeah, I know the take off the running boards off thing, it was the first thing I did to my 80 series.

This time, I think I will wait until I get my sliders on though. I don't hate the look.

How do they ride at higher speeds (50mph and up)?

Any significant vibration at higher speeds?

TIA

Why wait? Take them off. It doesn't take 15 minutes...The running boards look like s*** and the LC isn't that high off the ground in the first place !! I don't know when this fascination with the things started but they don't belong on any proper off-road vehicle. If you think you need running boards, don't get a Land Cruiser, get a GD AWD minivan !!

Some of us have a wife.

My wife loves the Slee step sliders!

My wife doesn't. Even with the Line-X, she sometimes still slips on them in the wet, when wearing dress/office shoes.

I got a roll of skateboard tape at the local hardware store to put on my tube sliders. That stuff is rough! Ain't nobody slippin' off these babies... (but it you do, don't scrape your leg on it...)

My wife a 3 kids love mine as well. An occasional slip yes, but at least they have a step!

As do I and many others.......however, if you'll notice, virtually everyone, save a small child or a really short adult, steps OVER them both getting in and getting out. If these were F-250's, etc., you'd actually NEED a running board, but I'll bet if you watch, the running boards on these vehicles that don't need them are nothing more than devices to muddy up the rear of pant legs!

I absolutely HATE them! I tried to take them off of my wife's GX, but she likes the way they look. She admits that she never uses them in either direction, but still wants to leave them on her car.....I know this is psychological (and maybe some sort of freakish mental problem of mine), but I actually didn't like my '03 until I removed the boards. It didn't drive well, it didn't stop well, it wasn't smooth, etc., until the boards came off! Mentally, it felt like the truck rose 6" and shed 1,000 lbs. (which, incidentally, is exactly the same way it looks from a visual perspective!)
