Someone knows their way around a camera ;)! Good pics. But no pics of people?

Cool place eh?! Too bad its on the Wilderness list...

Ya this was just one guy's hour's work. there are a couple more albums on the motherlode rockcrawlers web site.

There was another pro guy but I have'nt seen his stuff yet. I got a couple good ones , but I was hopelessly out gunned . there were 3 D-300 and 1 D-200 in the crowed. I will post some up from camp and Sliverado Cyn.

The high Alpine scenery is breathtaking and the view of the Sierra is Amazing!

This is definitely one of those places to do sooner rather than later.

Took me awhile but I found your Rockcrawler's site with the pics. The animated panorama is especially neat!

Ya can you imagine that panorama on the I-Max :cool:

Being up there looking down on and across the Sierra was truly special.

I thought the Wilderness Project deemed this too much opposition. I haven't seen any new meetings or anything. Are those **sholes still trying to close it down? I love riding my KTM up there. Its awesome on a full moon night. Great pictures.

A friend of mine gave me the reasoning for their "push" to classify any/this area as Wilderness. The Forest Service budgets are in jeopardy just about like all federal, state, county, local budgets these days. As told to me: If, for instance using the Sweetwater Range within the Bridgeport Ranger's District, they get the classification changed it frees up a tremendous financial burden of maintaining, fire fighting, etc the area(s). It might take 25 million or more to get it changed to Wilderness or Wilderness Study area but then post change the FS gets absolved of the financial and management burden.

I thought we might be safe for a while given the dire financial straits we are in; especially government. But after hearing this explanation it makes sense why they are aggressively pushing to get areas roped off ASAP right now.

The sick thing: We, through our federal taxes, support the very body that is trying (and probably will) to take our land away from us!!! :flipoff2:

If we wanted to reopen one of those mines they'd be knocking on our door for sure! I wonder, given Wilderness status if they can/will continue to lease out (something like a $1.00 and acre) the land for grazing rights for the ranchers? That's another thorn in my side!

No one will benefit from this closure. We stop in Walker for BBQ each time we're down there. Not to mention filling up in Walker and/or Bridgeport. Mine might not make any difference but start adding up all the $ that are spent to/fro these areas and you can start to see the negative ripple effect. But the FS just doesn't give a hoot!!!

We should get organized the best we can and give it our best. I'd hate to sit by the sidelines and watch all this get shoved up our arse without a fight.

What say you?

You can't usually fight the government. The only thing you can do is tie it up in court so long that the current administration retires, or gets fired for their deeds.

That being said. You can get a lot done if you can bait them into doing something stupid and illegal.

Say, like, confronting them with facts and solutions that are workable, and getting them to blow their top and be unprofessional to the point of making a public scene, or breaking the law.

I really like it when they lay hands on you out of anger, rather than out of legal standing. Makes my day when I see one lose his job, that has no business being in a position of power. Not that I'm vindictive or anything..... Some of them are good people, doing a hard job. Others are environazi's with an ego problem and control issues.

Can you guess which ones I like to see go down in flames?

spressomon,
You are right, we should get organized and fight. I fought like hell last go around with these morons. You hav to write your senators and congressmen. Find out who supports this and write them and say you will not support their business (explanation below). There will be meetings on this. You have to attend them and sign the petitions. Last time around it was said that Sen. Reid was behind it in order to bargain with the county for the rights to take water from Walker Lake. A sort of, OK you don't want me to lock the gate, then give me this, thing. I swear the last meeting I attended in SV had 5,000 people there. The group trying to get it designated wilderness had 10. We found out that this Reno based group called the Wilderness Project was leading the way along with Reid. They are 100% funded by Patagonia. Patagonia gives them office space, pays their salary, and funds all research involved. So here is the explanation from the above. REI was also a major funding factor in this. I called and wrote both companies. I also told everybody I could get ahold of to let them know. I sent all my Patagonia cold weather gear back to them in a box with an explanation. At one of the meetings I told one of the leaders of the anti closure groups to bring up the fact that Patagonia and REI funded this stuff and everybody should stop buying from them. He went ahaead and mentioned and put out an email to all involved. (Explanation).

So anyway, there are groups working but it is definetly a safety in number sort of thing. The more people who join and oppose the more chance we have to win. Blue Ribbon Coalition, Pine Nut Trail Association, US4WD and Friends of the Rubicon are just a few. I am on an e mail list from the CPA, Coalition for Public Access. They always sent out reminders and let us know who what and where. One of the things that pissed me off the most was the fact that all the people who were trying to get the wilderness designation, weren't even from here. They were all previously living in Cali or Alaska or Azizona. I don't know if the Battle born Cruisers have a land issue guy, but it might a wise idea to elect one and put the strength of the club behind one of these organizations.
