Picked up A 94, Good to meet other LC owners in the area.

Hey Guys,

Figured I would say hello. I picked up a 94 FZJ 80 about a month ago with a blown head gasket and 279K. I got the head off this weekend and hopefully will be taking it in tomorrow to get checked and cleaned up. I live in Jefferson City and am not new to off roading, spent years with different jeeps and currently have a built tundra. I have found Toyotas to be much more reliable and I am pumped to be building a Cruiser.

Looking forward to getting out and meeting a few of you. Maybe you guys could shoot me some pointers on the head work/ things to be aware of in a 94. I have ordered just about everything bolt on either toyota OEM or high quality replacement. Trying to do it once correctly.

Welcome to the expensive world of old Land Cruisers I'm just up the road from you in Morristown. Search the main 80 forum and you will see lots of threads on head gasket replacement. Knock on wood, my 93 has 175,000 miles on it and after replacing the radiator and hoses, she's running nice and cool. If you need any work done, I have a buddy here in Morristown that's become almost "expert" on the 80's and he does work out of his house. I also have a good connection on OEM parts in Atlanta that has saved me a lot of money. I stopped by Rusty Wallace Toyota today for a price on a throttle cable and it was $155. I got in touch with Kyle at South ATL Toyota and it was $112.

Thanks @10ga I am not far from Morristown, my wife works up there. I am doing the head job myself and downloaded the FSM and got it pulled out yesterday.
I have a lot of OEM parts I ordered, but still missing a few odds and ends. I may take you up on the parts hook up. I try to never use Rusty Wallace, they are $$.
Who is your buddy who works on 80's. wouldn't mind him shooting me a few pointers as I begin to get this thing put back together. I am ready to get it on the road/ trail. I have bumpers, sliders and a rack on order for it. Still looking at lift options. I also realize that with 279K I will need some other maintenance that will show up once I get it rolling. My guess would be brakes, all fluids and The Front axle birfs are rough looking. I hear the rebuild isn't too bad on those though.

TEC3, how's the 80 going? Make sure to post some pics. I met a guy tonight that I think knows you. I gave him my factory springs off my 80 and he said he knew a guy in JC that just bought an 80 and was working on it.
