Superwinch Husky 10 Install on ARB

First some noted observations that make this mod not for the plug and play group.

Some comparisons of the Husky 10 and the Warn M12000 no judgments here just the facts. Although I have never seen an M12000 mounted on an ARB in person.

Drum Width Warn M12000 8.2”, Husky 10 9” so roller fairlead is wider for Husky 10 and does not bolt to ARB fairlead support.
Overall Dimensions
Warn 24.37" L. x 8.45" D. x 11" H.
Husky 10 24.69"l. x 9.75"d. x 8.88"h.
These dimensions only tell part of the story, the M12000 has the drum mostly in the middle, the Husky 10 has the drum to the far driver’s side.
Another comparison is that the M12000 is front mounting while the Husky 10 is bottom mounting and the fairlead (hawse or roller) in an integral part of the winch holding the two halves together. So the M12000 is mounted to the ARB by drilling holes in the front of the ARB and mounting the roller fairlead to the bumper then to the winch itself and you are essentially done with the mounting is my understanding.

Husky 10 since it mounts to the bottom needs a plate welded to the ARB between the frame rails. Step two notch out the ARB on the passenger side under where an auxillary light would go (the angled part) to get the winch as far forward and as centered as possible. Because the winch has the drum so far to the driver’s side the front of the winch cannot flush up to the front of the ARB (about 2” back). The passenger side of the winch holds the motor and worm gears soaking in gear oil and extends far to the passenger side.

So now the bottom mounting plate is in, the passenger side of the ARB has a notch cut out and the winch sits ½” to the driver’s side of center, and 2” back from the front of the ARB. Now you have to cut off the existing roller fairlead support on the ARB because you have to make room for the Husky 10 roller which as mentioned is significantly wider than the one for the M12000. Now you widen the opening for the fairlead which means taking a little more on the driver’s side and attaching the roller fairlead to winch itself not to the front of the ARB.

Results are that there is plenty of room on the driver’s side of the winch mounting plate to locate the solenoid pack with plenty of room for access in the future. Next the roller fairlead is recessed because the winch sits back from the front of the bumper 2” still allowing the rope to come out at extreme angles (not quite 90 degrees) vertically, and at least 90 degrees horizontally. The long horizontal rollers are inside of the front of the ARB by ¼” or so and the vertical rollers are just outside the front of the ARB.
As mentioned you have to really want to do this compared to the other more popular options. This is certainly not rocket science, but compared to drilling a couple of holes this much more involved.

Thanks for the bandwith hope some of you found this worthwhile.
