I have no idea if this is a respectable record of sorts but.......I just changed 2 PHH's in 2 days. Yesterday, for those of you not in the Los Angeles area, was done so in pouring down rain.

The second was harder than the first for two reasons: the back clamp was at a more "pesky" position (I don't have a cut off wheel for my little dremmel so I could not cut this clamp off:mad: ) and also the 97' LX was the second one done and the original hose was in far better shape than the 93' was. Therefore it was more difficult to manuvere and cut off (the 93' was in such bad shape that it peeled right off).

All in all it wasn't too tough, I had to get creative and jimmy rig a few steps together using the tools that I had at my disposal. I could have never done it without the aid of all the write ups on this board:bounce: :bounce2: . For those who are nervous I have a 1/2:banana: mechanical brain. My arms are long and skinny and I think that it helped alot.

I also flushed both radiators (1 red, 1 green--I kept with what the PO of each used), and changed the belts on the LX. Anyways thanks for all the support.

Mine are big and fat! :D

I don't know if its a record, but it definately reveals your burried masochistic tendancies.

I didn't ever want to do the PHH replacement again after I did 1... and mine had easy aftermarket clamps on it.

I think 2 in a row is a record.

OK don't give me too much credit yet. I just needed a little pat on the back. I know it has only been 1 and 2 days but neither new one has failed yet (If they do fail it will be b/c of me and not the pretty blue hoses that houston so kindly puts together for us ;) ).

Btw. how tight should those clamps on the new hoses be? I tightened them pretty darn tight and I hope that is right....

I hope neither HG fails, but having 2 80's increses those chances. I did not do a very good flush of the radiator and was put of by the sludge in both. It looked to me like the PO on the 93' went to green from red without a thourough flush. The 97' had red and it was in far better shape but it honestly looked like it could have been the original fluid from new:eek: (yea, that is 9 years old).. I am now expert and I really hope that is not the case. I should have a Lexus dealer run the VIN so that I know for sure what has been done.

Oh yea, I rewarded myself with an ARB Deluxe bull bar ;p that I STOLE from 4wheelparts for $800.00 out the door. Of course I installed it (as if I would let 4wheelparts touch my :princess: ).

I will post pics after I install the lights this weekend.

Congrats on the PHHx2. You're in LA and you went to 4-Wheel-Parts? Sacrilege! ;)

trust me i was very close to going w/ man-a-fre. Fact of the matter is 4WP warehouse is 6 miles from my work. So no shipping and no driving very far to pick it up. man-a-fre lists the bumper at $749 and I got mine for $739 + tax. If Man-a-fre was closer I would have paid extra to go there. 4WP was just too canvienient. I will be happy if I never give 4WP another dime.

Care to do X4? I haven't looked at my PHH, but given that it's 12 years old, it would probably be good maintenance at this point. She has lived a mostly sheltered life here in SoCal for 12 years, so I'd doubt the clamps are in bad shape.

Did you use our board sponsored replacement?

Brent-You are living on borrowed time. It isn't the clamps that fail. The rubber gets eaten electrically from the inside. Fix it now, or budget a new motor at some point. It is a seriously crappy job, but the second one would be easier.

I did it X2 too

this was my trail replacement to bypass the heater circuit and get the truck back from the trail which was too far from civilization, then I had to do it again after 30,000 miles of driving with the SPENT Remington 12ga plug which held up amazingly on the engine and heater side, but the cold weather forced me to reconnect the heater and had to do it again.

(for you pesky moderators: I used a shortened and SPENT shotgun shell not a live one so dont get your hackles up and send me nasty PMs :)

I know, I know! :flipoff2:

The way that whole little hose thing is set up is a total mockery of modern engineering. I would love to talk to that designer/engineer. Yeah I am going to order the blue silicon hose form the forum vendor and redo again before the summer. So 3d time will really be a charm. I dont even want to know how long that Pepboy hose will last in there, but I needed a heater this winter.

I used Houston's finest X2. I actually got them at the end of last year and it took a while to muster up the courage to attempt it (I started with an oil change, changed a starter, did another oil change, replaced some speakers, flushed the radiator). After my brief intro to vehicle maint. I pulled it off. It really wasn't too bad (ofcourse I expected the world to end just trying it). If I had a cut off wheel for my dremel I think that it would have been much easier.

Just ordered the replacement from our board vendor. Have a dremmel so that part may be ok. Never have drained the coolant tho. Have to find the drain plug. hehehe

It took me a little while to find the drain plug and c0ck. Once you find them you will never need to look for them again. hint: both of my engine block brass drain plugs had a greenish looking line painted down the middle of the bolt head. I don't know if they all will but a 93' 80 and a 97' LX both did.

Mickey Rubicon....

very nice redneck engineering. You know if you had used Winchester ammo it would have laster longer... :D

BTW do you plan to reload that one when you are done with it...

Smitty..

If you ever loose a headgasket (hope you dont) I am sure there are several of us here who have done one that is you FEED us and supply enough liquid refreshment we might help.....
