I have a 2006 4runner, 4.0L, sport edition. Can anyone provide feed back on the use of performance chips? Good, bad? thanks

I installed a performance computer in my moms 06 4Runner SR5 V8 4.7L and it didn't seem to make any real difference. The cold air intake and cat-back exhaust made the difference.

Sent from deep in the mountains of Honduras using only sticks and rocks.

Is there any downside to the intake and exhaust? (mileage or reliability offroad?)

We've done both these mods in an '05 & '06 4R and we haven't experienced any negative issues. I personally don't advise messing with the cats no matter how much a company guarantees no problems. In my experience Toyota has a very sensitive cat system that doesn't like to be messed with. Just IMHO. :D

So what do you figure just the intake is good for (even on a v8?) +8 hp at the wheels at the most?

Ours are both on V8's (intake/cat-back exhaust). Can't really attest to the increase in power cause the V8 is crazy fast already.

EDIT: I wanted to add that we noticed most of the HP gain once we installed our snorkel as I believe it acted as a forced air induction.
