Does anyone make a performance chip for the Cruiser?

Yes, but in my opinion, all of them suffer from reliability problems. I think it is preferred to performance enhance engine systems and let the factory computer keep up with those mods. There was a recent thread on the unichip. The unichip came with the turbo system but I dont use the unichip, I use the factory computer. The factory computer keeps up with no problems. The fine folks at Slee apparently have seen several unichips fail leaving rigs stalled still. They also advised that the factory computer was preferrable, whatever they advise, I follow!!! HTH

The short answer is no as there is not a removable processor in the ECM. Some outfits will take your ECM, disassemble it, and install a new "chip". Approach this method with caution as a new ECM can exceed fifteen hundred dollars and having to replace yours, if the transplant fails, would be very painful. There is a "piggy back" processor known as the "Unichip" that lays over the top of the OEM ECM. That product comes from Aus and to properly "fit" one you will need a four wheel loaded Dyno and a computer to program it to your particular rig.

DAMN!

Not 80 specific but I'll second the reliability issues mentioned above..... Sent off the ecu in the Jetta turbo I used to own. They opened the case, put the chip in, sent it back. Worked great but they didn't get the case sealed correctly and on a Jetta the module is located under the windshield wiper cowling. Wife went through the auto carwash and Presto.....circuit board was swimming! $800 bucks for the ecu, not to mention the $450 I spent to have the original chipped. Of course warranty doesn't cover an ecu that's been modified.

My 125,000 cents worth,
Jason
