People keep braking into my cruiser.

In the last month it happened once in Maine and once in NYC.

They are doing it in the 'nicest' way possible- using a lock out kit so no broken glass and they seem to just be after loose change but it is violating and frustrating non-the-less.

1st time they took a ziplock bag with about $20 in quarters and the second time they took one of my favorite pocket knives and my iphone lightning cables (there was no change to be taken the second time).

Anybody else having this experience? Anything I can do besides putting a sign up that says 'nothing of value inside car'?

I've heard of people leaving glove box and armrest open so folks can look in and see they are empty. Then you just have to find a place to hide your stuff.

Right. The issue with that is my windows are tinted and it is pretty hard to see in (especially at night). I think I am going to buy a dummy flashing red LED and see if that helps. I just had no idea how easy it was to brake into these things.

Is it possible that you might have a weak door lock actuator, and they are entering through an unlocked door, w/o the alarm set?

A big mean dog in the car might help, but could cause other problems...

Locked my keys inside and the tow guy used one of those to get in, and yes, the alarm went nuts.

Thanks for this- I will dig into the owners manual and make sure the alarm is enabled.

Do you have techstream? There are alarm system settings accessible through it.

I've seen this on an 00 Land Cruiser, an 04 4runner, and an 06 LX470. On the 04 4runner and 06 LX it was pretty noticeable because you didn't get the "beep" on locking the car with the fob. On the 00 Land Cruiser, it was easy to miss because it doesn't have the "beep on lock". About the only way to verify is to watch for the "alarm" light near the stereo when you lock the car with the fob. If your TLC is frequently getting broken into, with no signs of force, and no alarm, either someone has a key or more likely you have at least 1 lazy door lock actuator and a door is not getting locked, therefore the alarm is not getting set. It usually starts intermittently (worse in the heat) and gradually stops working altogether.

I'd check for a weak/lazy actuator before I spent too much time with techstream or the owners manual.

Now we are getting somewhere. Just did some experiments. Passenger side door is not locking with the remote or with the electronic lock switch- only way to get it to lock is by manually locking it. When I did that and then tried to unlock the car from the inside, I heard the sound of the alarm for the first time. Any idea as to how much replacing the actuator costs? And thanks!

My 99 LX has locking issues. The FOB works find as long as no one tries to manually lock a door.
If they do lock manually normally one of the rear doors or the tailgate doesnt lock.
I have to manually lock or unlock each door and let it sit for a while. If I dont touch anything for a few minutes the FOB with lock unlock all doors again.

If I dont wait long enought before I try the FOB and make sure all the doors are on the same setting I could be in a cycle for hours or days.

1-cars are not secure locations to store anything of value.
2-car alarms are for saving money on insurance premiums only, nothing else.
