I have always done complete repaint, but there is so much I like about this natural look that I am thinking of continuing the cleanup a bit more instead.
my questions are;
1) the hood does have too much white showing for my liking. is it possible to put some red and sand some off to look more "naturally" red?
2) I am on the beach in Florida and I want to keep the rust/patina where it is. do I wax, clear seal or "other"?

40 is a very faded 66 FST Freeborn Red. it has nice patina and white primer showing in areas, but the hood/cowl are both nearly all white primer. I have almost zero rust to repair. thanks to that dry dessert air it has been sitting in...in Moab.

tried to attach pictures, but they come out upside down.

thanks,
Dukes

I've sprayed color onto a car and then used a fine wet sanding paper to take off the excess paint to get the look I wanted. I followed the contours of the car taking more paint off the higher points of the panels and the parts that wold naturally get worn off the most. Clear coat the car after it has been lightly sanded (1000-1200 grit or red scotch BRITE pad) to prevent any further loss of paint or rusting. You can use gloss, semi-gloss or flat clear depending on your preference. I preferred semi-gloss for a slight shine.

thanks

sounds like a good way to go.

clearcoat it, shoot a coat of single stage red where you want it then sand and then clear the whole thing, you can even get clear with a satin or flattener added, being in fl I would clear the whole thing and then do the canada fish oil thing in the crossmembers and the winshield frame, and anywhere else that is hidden that will preserve what you have and keep the patina you want..

good luck, rust is evil...to a cruiser...
