We may be passing through the Phoenix area on our way to Sedona then the Arizona Strip next month. Can anyone recommend a clean, safe, inexpensive place to stay the night? Somewhere where I can park the truck close to the front door and keep an eye on it? We will in Tempe during the evening so somewhere close would be nice, but not a requirement. Even somewhere like Glendale would be ok as I want to stop by Cabela's while in town (love that store, really wish we had one here).

What's your definition of inexpensive ?

IDK, towards the lower end of the range, without getting into the dirt cheap category. Just a nice clean place to sleep and get refreshed without all the fancy amenities. I am seeing Motel6 in the area for about $50. Is that a good planning number? I can go a bit higher if nothing looks appealing at that price point.

I have stayed in some lesser known motels before that were inexpensive but were actually pretty nice. Just wondering if anyone can recommend something like this.

EDIT: just did some trip advisor searching. Seems like $75 is about the going rate for a good clean basic motel around Tempe.

Have you tried Airbnb? Always look there first when traveling

It's the neighborhood around the hotel that separates these price points. Clean place to stay with 20% of the occupants doing meth in their rooms and looting the cars in the lot is about $50.:grinpimp:

I often stay at the Best Western Tempe before I fly out of Sky Harbor ( Scottsdale Rd and 202) I trust it to leave a vehicle there for 2 wks at a time. Basic, full breakfast, Denny's on site, restaurants nearby, cheap rates. Not 5 star by any means, but safe and clean.

Sadly hotel prices have gone through the roof. I walked out of a place in Salt Lake that was $80 a night because it was a dump. I had to pay $110 for a clean secure place. Of course every town will vary. In Phoenix most of the Motel 6 are in the news because someone gets shot there, busted for drugs, whatever. Sad truth. There are a bunch of new hotels in South Chandler off of Price Road/101. Just south of the 202. That is a corporate area non-residential. While you would not be able have a room by your truck I would consider that a safe area. Also a new one on Chandler and McClintock.

Yeah that is what I am seeing as well. I think we will be able to stay at a friend's house so I hope that works out. Else it looks like I will be spending $100 for a nights sleep and a hot shower :(

Related question, can anyone recommend a basic clean motel or nice campground in Sedona? We will probably stay there one night, run broken arrow and have dinner somewhere. Thanks!
