Well, it looks like we won't make this parade. Pulled the drums last night to find the "leaking wheel cylinders" and the brake linings had all come off.....not worn off, just became unbonded. The rear wheel cylinders were frozen. I think these might be the original 60 year old brakes. The ODO shows about 60K.
Anyway, when all is done, it should be roadworthy and there is a parade somewhere just about every weekend.

Found all the parts....new shoes, all new wheel cylinders and I will be parading tomorrow. I'll post pics. Please forgive the wheel job. Polishing a black car in the dark is not the best idea, but "poor folks has poor ways";)

I thought the pump would be here today but no luck.

should definately be here on Monday, you want me to send picture before I ship?

Probably a good idea, but I will reimburse you the cost of postage to you or me or you-and-me from your friend.

Thanks for your help Sean.

sorry getting back to you so late, and don't worry about the postage from CT to Tucson, the knucklehead owes me big time. speaking of knuckleheads, he sent me the wrong pump. If I'm not mistaken your needing what looks like a #588? I'll post pictures tomorrow morning of what he sent me.

theres some cross referencing with early Desoto's and I think he sent one per vintage without looking at the picture I included in my e- mail to him.

anyway sorry for the delay but I WILL come through;)

No problem! and I DO appreciate your help on this. It is running fine on the electric.

Hello Ed, my sincere apologies for not getting back with you sooner. I'm trying be as adament with my daily job as I can during this rough period. I don't need to loose any customers or get a bad rap.

My buddy Chris sent me what I believe is the right pump last week. I'm going to post pictures of the two that he sent me and you can have the both for shipping to your address, just let me know if at least one of them looks like it will work.

also let me know if you don't want the second one, I don't have any use for it but i understand if you don't want to pay for the shipping.

I'll have the pictures up in just a minute.

Ed, let me know the bolt-up holes are the same but the gaskets are a little bit different.

Sean,
The one on the left looks like it might be the one. The other one has the vacuum pump for the wipers. Can you post a pic of the top of the pump? I mean looking down on the top?

Thanks,

Ed

Ed, I'm going out of town tomorrow for a week but if I hear back from you early enough I'll drop it in the mail today. The second picture is the first pump my buddy Chris sent to me with year/model you had posted? The stud in the third picture came with the second pictured (larger one) pump. Hope this helps. The first pictured pump almost seems after-market-generic to me where as the second pictured pump is very stout. Like I mentioned before both of the bolt patterns seem to match.

I was thinking if you want one/both of them I could drop it in one of those larger flat rate boxes?

anyhow let me know if your worried about them getting banged up I could double box them and heavily wrap them.

p.s. no charge on the pumps it was a favor I'm passing on to the community, just shipping
