Trying to find a fuel pump for a '48 Plymouth DeLuxe. Parts houses are a no-go. A pile of 3 used ones on ebay, but not too specific as to application. There were two types made, one with a vacuum pump for the wipers and one without.

Gumby? CDan?

Thanks,

Ed

Try JC Whitney??? There used to be a guy by the name of George Taylor in Pasadena Tx that operated a old car parts store... I'll check when I get home........

I had no luck with JCW on the master and was able to order that through my local CarQuest:confused: but they cannot get a fuel pump.:frown:
I'll try JCW again.......
Thanks Grant:beer:

Hey Grant......if I have to go electric, this ol' Plymouth is 6V positive ground. What are the chances of finding a generic electric that will work? If I can find a 6V pump, can I just isolate/insulate it and reverse the polarity? IOW, not ground through the pump. Do they even make 6V electric pumps?

Ed:confused:

Electric Pump

Well.... I know a guy that restores old classics and he told me Napa has a electric 6V pump part#P4259 that will work + or - negative ground..... also he claims JC Whitney has one as well.......

Sean, here are a couple of pics. I believe the engine is the 217 inch flathead. You can see where I broke the ear off the fuel pump. The ear has a bolt/wingnut that supports the heat shield under the exhaust manifold.
Any help appreciated! Even an old core would work because the guts on my pump are OK.

the one I've got here is not the same.

a friend of mine in CT is sure to have one though, and he still owes me from a set of closed chamber 440 heads I left him when I moved;)

I'll give him a call

Thanks! I'd really appreciate it. To get it "Parade-worthy" I'll get a 6V electric, but sure would like to put it back the way it was.

The second one looks like it could be the one. Thanks for the link.

I think I'll hold out on a casting for my pump....for now

No problem, the first one is the same, according to them, just looks like you provide the fuel bowl.
Got any pics of the car to show off?

I will have, just as soon as it is running and out from under a carport. Needs to be wheeled out and ready for the Parade this Saturday.......:bang:

Sourced a 6V pump and that part is OK, runs like a champ. The brakes? Not so much:frown:
Master is replaced, but something is leaking. Two wheel cylinders on the front and one in the rear. Working on it tomorrow night. Hope it can be "parade ready" by Saturday........:hhmm:

Thanks Sean. I looked high and low. Must be specific to that year:confused:
