I have one screw that won’t fully tighten on my oil pump cover. It’s the top center screw. I can feel it thread its way in, but once it reaches the back of the bolt hole, it spins, not completely loose or freely, but it won’t fully tighten. FYI, I tried a few M6 1mm screws all brand new.

Considering 6 out of the 7 screws were properly fit and tightened in their holes, do I absolutely have to re-tap this hole with an M6 1mm tap or can I take a different approach?

I have read everything from adding a compound into the screw hole to help secure the bolt, wrapping sewing thread around the screw, coating a thin layer of loctite on the screw and letting it dry and then installing the screw, the list goes on.

Has anyone else ever dealt with this and what was your approach?

Id try running a tap in it. Sounds like the last few threads are roached and the front ones are probably mostly stripped. In the end you may find yourself wanting to just move up to an M7
