Partial hitch receiver cover - is there such a thing made? (2 Viewers)

The one cover with snap cover creates some challenges for how to make it so it looks good without the snap cover in place and at the same time not show signs of wear on the paint from snapping the cover on and off. In addition the snap cover should not limit the access to the hitch especially because there is little space between the hitch pin hole and the plastic bumper parts.

I did not "design" it in Autocad. I do have a process of making it so it looks "factory" but it is manual stuff. It takes a few hours to do it this way and look good. Add to that $50+ for the part and it is not cheap, and that doesn't even include painting.

Even just 3D printing it as it is for people to just buy would be great. That is what I was looking for when I started the thread.
In the process you might be able to adjust the lower half so it does not flare out making it even better fit and looks.
If no autocad file, I would need one to scan. Any chance you can send me one to look at? I can pay for shipping and cost. I don’t know where my OEM one is but mines beat up and not a good candidate for a 3D scan/reverse modeling. A clean example for scanning will save me a lot of post processing time in the software.

I could maybe make the cover in Nylon (flexible), or ABS lined with nylon edges - so that it does not scratch your paint and so you can have a nice tight seal.

I think the real selling point is with 3D printing, is that you can do any shape and sizes, as well as add a nice finishing touch.

Who wants a mini land cruiser as the tow-hitch cover for your land cruiser!?? Lmao.

I volunteer. I’m already making remote controlled rock crawler land cruisers (RC RC LC) and desert racers; so I will have the 3D models available anyways.

Here is my version.
I got a spare (only available unpainted) cut, shaped, and painted in the body color on both sides.
I added some clear paint protection film to the sides of the hitch to prevent wear and scratches on the paint while operating the hitch.
The Lexus rubber plug should be delivered today to finish it off the summer trim.
I'm using the original for winter.

Sorry to bring this thread up from the dead, but what’s the process to trim the cover like this? Does it require any special tools? From the photos it looks really clean and would save a bunch the hassle and time of removing the cover every time the hitch needs to be accessed.

I’m guessing the whole scanning and offering them for sale never materialized? There’s some listings on eBay that offer a square cutout for the hitch receiver itself, but it doesn’t look like you could attach the chains or access the pin with the cover on. They’re also close to $200 and are shipped from China…just seems like too many drawbacks.

I'd use a dremel, sand it clean, and possibly finish with some edge trim. If you mess it up you can always order another one.

Don't know why I put this off for so long, but I finally got around to mine. 20 minutes with an oscillating multi tool and using some edge trim I had lying around from my hidden winch install and this is what I came up with. It should be wide enough to place/pull the hitch pin, otherwise I'll make it a little wider. Now just waiting on the hitch plug from my dealer. Never would have had the inspiration if it wasn't for this thread. :)

Nice. I’ve posted this before, but here’s what I did about a year ago. I just wanted a rear recovery point with a clean factory look. I don’t tow much so I wasn’t worried about easy hitch pin access. But when needed I can do so by removing the cover.
