My brake job had just turned into a motor rebuild. There is a logical progression to that statement. My FJ80 is a 91 with 3FE motor. She is slow and tired and can use a rebuild since she is leaking oil, ATF, and coolant from every connection. I'm pretty sure I've dumped more oil in the environment than BP!!

So here is my question. Since the motor and trans is coming out should I install a part time 4wd kit? I'm hoping to get a couple of HP for highway driving and picking up a couple MPG would be nice too. Any input would be great.

When I pull the motor should I take the transmission with it as a unit or separate them and pull the motor by itself and then drop the transmission?

Thanks for the help,
Brad

Hi Brad and Im P/T and received very little if any increase in HP or MPG. DO it for the love of P/T not for economy.

I like that I can roast my tires with my Lx450 in 2wd oh and the less heavy steering wheel :)

Thanks for the feed back. I was hoping to get a little more kick out the the 3FE but sounds like that won't happen. My ideal set up would be to swap in an H55 but $3k+ is hard to justify.

There is a notice in more power with the pt but it's nothing that's going to plant you in the seat
