What is the name of the big canister that sits on the passenger side of the engine bay directly to the left of the oil filter (if looking at engine from the front of the wagon)? It is large and has two larger-sized hoses coming out the top. I checked SOR and couldn't figure it out. Thanks.

P.S. I am a dork.

do you mean the air filter housing????

i havn't looked in 60 in awhile.....but that is what was to the left of my oil filter on the 62 i had in japan.....

Thanks, guys.

OK. I thought it might be the charcoal canister. One of my hoses is in need of a clamp (I didn't know it was loose until today). Does it have any effect on the idle?

thats the charcoal canister, why?

Well, here's the pic (not mine, took it from eBay).

How would a loose hose (the rear-most hose) affect the behavior of the rig?

Thanks.

is the rear most the short 90 deg one? if so it prolly will effect little, mine on both my 82 and 86 had a tear in it, replace and nothing magical happened ;)

Mine was rotted pretty bad and I replaced the hose along with all the other vacuum lines. It made a HUGE difference but I can't say which lines did the trick since I did them all at once. The idle wasn't bad before, just a big boost in power & smoothness with the new vacuum lines so I obviously had an issue somewhere.

Yep. It is the 90 degree one (actually, the hose on mine is about a foot long). I will just cut it down and reuse it.
