I used the parking brake for the first time in months yesterday, then noticed the next time I put it in reverse the rear brakes were squeaking and holding me from moving slightly. When pulling up on the brake lever, I get no resistance until about half way up. I am thinking the brakes are staying partially engaged. What do I do to fix this?

A couple things to check: You ultimately should pull one of the rear rotor/drums ( job) to inspect the e-brake pad thickness and related mechanisms, including the little bell cranks where the cable enters the drum, to see if something is bound up/corroded/etc. Then assuming the pads are within tolerance, etc., you can adjust the play out of the cable at the adjuster that sits just behnd the rear axle housing.

The salt has gotten to them. Happens all the time here in Boston. Soak those little swing arms and anything else that should move with liquid wrench. It helps if you get into the habit of using the e brake everytime you stop.

When you guys park on a good slope and set the e-brake- Do you get a loud creeking sound as you let off the foot pedal, the vehicle moves slightly and the e-brake takes hold? FYI- I use my e-brake all the time.
