chrome is bad....despite the fact it makes you go faster, I generally avoid it...

as part of my TBI motor swap, I'm installing a custom gauge cluster, replacing the factory one. Niner delivered a sweet stainless unit this weekend, and I started fitting gauges last night. Problem is, 3 of my gauges are black surrounds (oil, water, volt) and 2 are chrome (tach and hour).

anything special I need to do to the Chrome to paint over it, or is it as simple as taping off the glass and hitting it with some semi-gloss?

My guess is that paint won't stick to chrome unless you sand it thoroughly, maybe 220 grit. Tough to do unless you can remove the bezels to work on them.

Chrome has no place on my cruiser. Blech....
I'll leave that for the heep's.

I used the 3M sanding pads (kinda look like sponges) and it worked really well. Much easier to use than paper. I was painting the chrome plated plastic on my grill tho.

Woody I expect to see a pic. of the assembled unit on here.

Soon anyway!
