Took a rock hit to my windshield and driver side door. The hit to the door is a golfball sized gouge that scratched the paint badly. Lexus dealer is replacing the glass and had it’s body shop quote me $1,400 to repair the door. I was told they have to paint the whole door and blend the paint on the panel and passenger door on either side of the door. Otherwise, you will be able to tell the door was painted. I have a 2021 Grey LC and just want to make sure the repair and paint are done right. Does this sound normal?

Price and description sound on par for a decent fix. I would go as far as to say cheaper than I would expect from the dealer.

Some paints tend to match so well that blending to other panels is not necessary (white, black) just polishing and polishing of surrounding panels.

With gray metallic, I would definitely recommend the blending to the surrounding panels. I would consider approaching a few good body shops directly. I'd expect to get it done for around $1,000 where I am.

Yes, totally normal to repaint the whole door. They will likely blend the paint into surrounding metal (fender, other door), too.

Price sounds reasonable to me, but prices will vary across locations and shops. I will say it's better to pay more right now and have them do a good job rather than save a few hundred bucks and end up with peeling paint, rust in repaired locations, etc. Ask for shop recommendations (local high-end car owners, dealerships, etc.) and go to the shop you feel comfortable with.
