Dan,
This is what I've been using the past couple years since Tom Ferrin aka TrickyT turned me on to them during one of our Utah trips. They're not something you'd probably want to strap to the roof but for keeping everything organized, dust free along with providing a very durable stacking compartment within the rig and also in the garage I'm 100% satisfied. No more Action Packer disappointment ;).

The Container Store > Watertight Trunk

And here's a recent thread about other solutions too: https://forum.ih8mud.com/camping-outdoor-gear/520287-rubbermaid-actionpacker.html

If you can store stuff inside your truck it's hard to beat good old apple boxes. They are the right size to pack and stack well and it's tough to get them to heavy for one person to lift. The price is right too. ;)

For roof top/rack storage I'm partial to military containers.
These work pretty well for me they measure 31 1/4 x 19 x 11 1/4"h., 26 lbs.;

I've got 2 plastic foot lockers that I used in the blotch rig, and now use in the Tacoma. Those have been great. Keep all the cooking gear in one and all the dry foods, whiskey and such in the other. Hoping I'll be able to use one in Mati when she's rolling.

i've been using a tough, light and cheap Contico box for a while. nothing fancy but it does the job of organization and toting. i bolted it to the bed of my old $runner and slapped a lock on it, for going topless and keeping my gear away from the bad guys. you can click through a few picks here: https://picasaweb.google.com/104820261230871748824/Runner#5278729850700113234

it works well enough in the back of the 100 until i get a real drawer system.

Was at Cabela's today and they have black versions of the one Spresso linked. Can't remember the price, but it didn't seem too bad.

Just for info.
