I need to send 2 doors and a windshield frame across the country. Crating will obviously work but that will destroy the shipping costs for the guy who bought the stuff.

Anyone have any creative ideas on how to pack this stuff? I will probably need to know this stuff anyway for when the container arrives

Thanks!
john

Suggestions from your local Postal guy.
Roll the windows down into the doors.
Use the picture frame boxes, get styrofoam for the
outside edges.
You don't want the goods sliding around inside the box.
Use good packing tape or nylon bands around the outside.
Make sure you cover the shipping label with clear tape so
water doesn't smear it.

Should've gone to the source! Thanks Lane!

Go find a glass shop, see if you can get a windshield crate. Very nice triple-layer cardboard on a pallet, with a lid. I've used them to ship engines and trannys. Sharp utility knife to trim the cardboard down to what you need, then trim the pallet with a sawzall.

I have found that bubble wrap is great and get some bicycle boxes at the bike shop. I usually have to rumage thru there dumpsters of cardboard. I just sent some heavy bumpers to texas and those boxes are great.

Good call on the bike boxes!

Local shipping place wanted $250 to pack the 2 doors and windshield for shipping. Doesn't include shipping costs which were less than that.

Try bike boxes. They are large enough to effectively suspend the parts in the middle of the boxes. I would be prepared to ship three boxes rather than stuff all those parts together.

ALSO BUY INSURANCE......in my experience as boxes increase in weight...more damage occurs.

Got 3 bike boxes. Should be all set. Packed them up good. They are going freight so not a lot of throwing around like UPS.
