Overheating after starter+ service

+1 on checking and clearing the reservoir hose that extends down into the reservoir, and the hose connecting the reservoir cap to the radiator. Mine were clogged with gunk at one point and it was affecting the vacuum that draws coolant back into the system during cool down.

Another not nearly as likely culprit is to check your fan clutch for proper operation. Depending on your outside ambient (it is summer after all), if you are just sitting idling it and the fan is not pulling enough air through perhaps that could cause an overheat.

Fan clutch was replaced, and seems to operate as it should. I had the same line of thinking there, and with 225k miles I felt it was a good idea regardless.

Reservoir hose is functioning properly. When open the system, and thereby lose coolant and introduce air, then run a bleed cycle, the reservoir is always empty the first time. I also just replaced the rad cap with oem.
 
Thank you to everyone who helped chased this down. Turns out this was an ID10T error.

After deciding there must be a block down line from the heater core if it flowed when disconnected, and didn’t once I hooked it back up, I went looking. Turns out I left a rag in the water inlet when I took it off to do the front bypass. Doh! Running like a dream again now.
