Overdrive Woes

So I leant my 1999 LX470 to my brother-in-law and he noticed that on the freeway (~60-70MPH) the car was at 3100-3200 RPMs. So sure enough it appears overdrive is gone. Toggling the O/D on/off switch does nothing but the transmission seems to work well overall.

I took it to a local mechanic and he wasn't able to find anything obviously wrong and suggested I take it to a transmission shop. Before spending more money on this I thought I would check on here in case there is a simple sensor or something I can swap out myself.

I’m going through the exact same problem. I started a thread a few months ago. There’s a few items I changed out with no luck. I may be looking at a rebuild. Let me know if you figure out what’s going on.
