I know it's "taboo" but I put 33x12.5 ATs on my 89 unmodified fj62.. for the first few months it drove like a dream.. now.. when I'm on the highway it seems to go in and out of overdrive.. I say this because of the sounds it makes.. I don't notice much if any change in the rpms but occasionally it sounds as though the engine is revving higher.. It will do so for a minute or so then the revving sound will cease.. I'm aware that when going to the 33's one should re-gear but i'm not totally convinced that this is my problem as it seems to do this from 50 all the way up to 70+.. any thoughts??

I'm not a 62 owner but I know the A440 can get pretty picky when its had a rough life.

Look up Rodney Flush on here, that may alleviate some of your issues.

Old ATF can give auto-transmissions a hard time. My girlfriends Ford Escape felt real sluggish, her Dad got the ATF changed and you gotta watch it when you put your foot on the pedal now.

HTH

I'm betting its your auxiliary fan coming on.
Does the tach change, or stay the same, when the sound from the engine changes?

no.. tach seems to stay the same.. I was thinking that maybe it was a fan but when I put it in neutral the sound stops then starts again when i put back into drive

it may sound dumb.. but how/what adjustments to the shift cable should I make?? seems like that might be a good solution.. I thought I would have to change out gears

bump on adjustments.. but additionally, it got a little chilly in the south tonight.. turned on the heater but got no heat.. temp gauge was actually reading a bit higher than normal but no heat in the front... the back seemed to have a little.. thoughts on transmission cable adjustment or lack of heat?
