I am replacing the boots on the CV joints on my 2005 GX470. So I got the cv joint off the truck and have cleaned evereything up.

When I put the OUTER boot (by the tire) on, it seems loose in the small end. The video I am watching shows there is some resistance to the boot as it is placed over the shaft and then it "snaps" onto the indentation on the shaft.

My boot does not do this. There is no resistance at the top and no snap in place. The bigger end snaps onto the outter spot and the entire inner boot (by the transmission) seems to be ok.

Is this normal? or did I get the incorrect parts (04427-60141)?

I am using this video:

The axle shaft gets slightly larger in OD and has a groove machined into it at both ends where the CV boot clamps onto it. If yours doesn’t have this groove it’s possible it was replaced in the past with a non OEM shaft?

I believe the part number you used is the same that I used for mine.

Mine had the groves. Not sure about the od.

The parts books look like there was a break at 2005. I am wondering if they got smaller after 2005 and the kit we bought is a universal kit.

I wrapped the shaft in some Gorilla duck tape and clamped it down. So far so good. Thanks for responding!
