Hey Guys,

Fellow mudder here going to be in Fresno for a long weekend layover. I was wanting to go to Yosemite saturday and sunday. I was wondering if I should stay in company provided hotel in Fresno and drive to Yosemite everyday, or spend a night or two in or near Yosemite. I will not have my cruiser and will have to rent something to drive and also will not have camping stuff.

So any input on where to stay, what to rent to drive up there and what I should do in Yosemite with two days would be appreciated. I have checked numerous NPS tent lodges and they are booked up. Thanks for the help.

Mike

Yosemite is about 90 miles from Fresno.Any type rental car can be used because you can not go off road in park.Oakhurst or Mariposa is closer to park and may have lodging. Go Yosemite National Park web site for things to see and do.

If you wanted to do the cabin thing, try The Redwoods. My brother has worked on some of the cabins there, and it's real nice location.

As far as what to do, it depends on what you are into. There's alot of history to see just walking around the Awahnee Lodge, or for some great views go to Glacier Point. There are small hikes to some of the falls on the valley floor, or you can go farther and see Nevada Falls, maybe even climb Half Dome.

How long are you going to be in the Fresno area?

I would do Kings Canyon and Sequoia National park one day and Yosemite the next day.

Leave early in the morning and make it a long day for each trip. You get a map when you pay to enter the park so dont buy one before hand.

PM me if you want to stop by. I will send you my phone #

Thanks for the offer. I do not land until 8am after being up all night. I am going to rent a car sometime after lunch after a brief nap. I am staying at the Fresno Four Points Sheraton. Not sure which way I am heading after that.

How far is the sat run from Fresno?

Thanks for the offer. Sorry I did not get this post until afterward. I also came into park on 180, which I am guessing by looking at map is not near your location Dan.

I am off to Yosemite today. Did Sequoia yesterday. Drove down to Kings Canyon and did short hike at Zumwalt (sp) meadow. Saw a bear and her cubs. This place is awesome and you guys are lucky to live in such natural beauty. I am really jealous.

If you stayed on the road and went to Sequoia National Park and came out in three rivers, you would have driven right by.

Have fun in Yosemite.
You have to go to Glacier Point!
You have to go to Glacier Point!
You have to go to Glacier Point!

When you leave Glacier Point lookout, head to the valley and be sure to stop at the water falls.

Drive carefull and watch out for the tourists. You will see them parked or standing in the middle of the road taking pictures.

I did a 180 and went back to Fresno on the 180.

I did hit glacier point and then went to valley. I did a hike up to vernal falls.

Had no idea that people from all over the world would be there.

Sounds like you had a good time and got to see some of our sights.

I'm also taken aback when we finally decide to go somewhere like Yosemite, and hear different languages and accents. I mean, it's just right there in our back yard, so we kind of take it for granted.
