Come on down for our annual Ouray Weekend. This year we will be headed down August 3-5th and enjoying the San Juan's diverse and scenic trails. Bring whatever vehicle you want as there will be something for everyone. Base camp will be in the same area as the Summit. We will be camping on Forest Service Land 5 minutes out of Ouray. PM me for the exact location and directions. Should be a great time to beat the heat and get out of town for a weekend.

Who's In?

Here is the trip report from last year's trip in case anyone is in need of motivation.

I am hoping we can make it down for this one. I need to finish ripping off my stock bumper so I can feel fully justified in purchasing a new one.

All-
Let's sweeten the pot a bit! Ryan R's family has offered to let us use the Eureka Lodge for the weekend! The venue is 9 miles north of Silverton on the Alpine Loop which will give us great access to the trails and hopefully invite some of you non camper types to come out. The lodge also has a newly constructed campground that is available to those who would still wish to camp and there is public land minutes away that can be camped at. There will be a nominal housekeeping fee that I can email/PM you if you are interested. Should be an excellent location and change of scenery for us.

It's quiet in here... everyone must be worn out from the FJ Summit!

Right now it looks like about 5 trucks are coming, some members have contacted me via email. Should be a good trip.

I figured that we could all discus trail runs on Friday evening. I have some ideas but want to give everyone the opportunity to give input. Being right on the Alpine loop we have direct access to a bunch of lesser driven trails in the area that I thought might be fun to explore.

I will be leaving A4F Saturday AM and might come by this location later in the day if I knew the location. Also want to know if it's possible to pull my trailer to this lodge. I mean if it's really on the Alpine Loop it might not be reasonable.

You can absolutely get your trailer to the location. The website is linked in the first thread. The location is 8 miles north of Silverton (towards Cinnamon Pass) on the good part of the road just after you cross the bridge over the Animas. The campground is just before the bridge.

The lodge has 17 available bedrooms, with 5 shared baths and a shared kitchen for us to use. IIRC we are the only group using it this weekend. Ryan's families friends have been very generous in the offer to let us use it and I would recommend leaving a nice tip, cleaning up after ourselves and generally leaving it better than we found it.

My plan is to try to leave GJ mid afternoon.

Here is a Google map link.

Jonathan is correct, a trailer will be just fine. It is an improved/graded/oiled dirt road until the last 1/4 mile to the lodge. You will pass the campground and get to a large dirt parking lot which is the beginning of the trail to Animas. Start up this trail and about 400 meters up you will see a mining cart and sign for the lodge off to the right. If you are towing a trailer in you will want to continue down to the lower parking lot, there is enough room to turn around down there. For those not towing a trailer feel free to park in front of the lodge when you arrive to unload and then move your vehicle down to the lower lot when you are finished. There is a road behind the lodge leading up to the Barn, please do not block this road.

FYI - My family does not own the lodge, it is owned by friends of the family and they have graciously lent it to us for the weekend. They run it year 'round as a Bed and Breakfast so there may be other guests showing up while we are there. I will be arriving late on Friday evening. My sister Jacy will be at the lodge and will assign rooms and get everyone settled in.

Jonathan - I like your idea of exploring some of the less traveled routes but I am happy to go with whatever the group decides. There aren't any trails in the area that are anything less than spectacular imo.

Thanks for the clarification and detailed instructions Ryan! It's gonna be great!

Hey guys, a couple more quick notes, I'm trying to relay questions as they come in.

Friday: Diner will be on your own since people will be arriving at all hours of the night. The lodge has a full kitchen.

Saturday: Pot Luck Dinner!!! bring your favorite recipe, again, full kitchen!

Rooms: rooms will be assigned as first come first served by the lodge host. We have few enough people attending at this time (looks like 7-8 singles, couples, families) that we should not have any issues getting someone a bed to sleep on.

Facilities: there are 5 shared bathrooms at the lodge.

Comm: I will be on CB channel 13 and 2M channel 146.460 but may not be actively monitoring through the evening.

Runs: I hope to leave at 9:00 on Saturday for the days runs, again we will look at the maps but I am thinking the gulches and passes in the immediate Silverton area are a good bet.

And again, lets make sure we leave the lodge looking better than when we arrived!

See you all soon. If you have any questions feel free to call me or send a PM.

Hey guys, looks like we may have another joining us on Saturday morning. I saw FJX2000 post up in the FJ Cruiser section and noticed that he was in the Durango/Silverton area so I invited him down. I just spoke with him on the phone and it sounds like he will be joining us. I directed him to this thread for info and direction so hopefully he'll post up and introduce himself.

Looking forward to seeing everyone up at the Lodge this evening! It's going to be a great weekend!

Hey everyone, I'm FJX2000 and as RyanR said, I will be joing you all up there on Saturday at the lodge. :D

I'm only about 2 hours away from Silverton so this place is basically my back yard. I was up in the area for the Summit just a few weeks ago which was awesome and I hope that most of you were able to attend! I am only 18 and will be heading off for college in a couple of weeks so i'm fairly new to the offroading thing but I LOVE it!! I already talk, eat, sleep, and dream FJ Cruisers all the time so I'm addicted now. :p

But as for what I drive, I drive a 2007 TRD Special Edition FJ Cruiser which is totally blacked out besides the lights. I would post a pic but this thing wont let me, but in the thread "Post Pics of your FJ Here" or something like that, I posted pics last night so they would be near the end of that thread. But here is a list of the stuff my rig has:

4 KC HiLiTES SlimLites - LEDs all around - Body Mount Chop - Rocktek Front Link Armor & Shock Mount Armor - Compustar alarm/remote-start system - TRD Cold Air Intake & Cat-back Exahust System - Leveling kit (2 1/2") - 16" TRD Special Edition Alloy wheels - 305/70R16 Fierce Attitudes - 1.25" Spidertrax wheel spacers

But yeah I can't wait to meet your group and to hit the trails! and thanks so much for the invite to join you guys RyanR! :D

I'll be in town with my 40 staying at the timber lodge and planning on running a few trails i hope to meet you guys

Jason

heading out in about an hour! Packed and ready.

So, I am up here in silverton and have no direct way to get a hold of any one attending to meet up and run a trail or two with the group! If any one can pm me or email me directly to join up it would be greatly appreciated! - Ben
