Hope to drop a vintage pop up camper and build on it at some point.

Various power wagons, M37's and others around it as well.

Most of all of those are my father's. My brother has an eye on one of them and I do another, of the M37's. I don't know if he wants to part with any of it but I can check.

Kybishop,

Your Father has a collection of M37's. I like the Power Wagon, behind your trailer, too. On your trailer wheels, they are split ring wheels, as I'm sure you know and hard to get tires mounted. Have you thought about putting a newer axle, with electric brakes, under it.

Fun collection y'all got there!

Yeah, the wheels with the split rings are one of the reasons dad got the trailer. This is just part of the collection. Others are in the barn, a carryall and more power wagons and some boats and other cars. I have no idea how many he has. The old power wagons run the split ring wheels. Your right, they are hard to get mounted, can be dangerous too.

I have thought about different wheels and was not sure about the axle. Just started playing with the idea as the trailer has been sitting there a while. Thought I would put it to good use.

After I saw this I think I want to build a teardrop on it with a rooftop tent. I like this setup.

If you're going to build, something like that, might as well get a new axle, with wheels and tires to match your truck.

Here's a picture of mine.

Here's a picture of mine.

My M37 was made on Dec 13, 1951, registration number 2406776.

Your registration number, 2407061, is only 285 units later. Yours is also the closest registration number to mine I've seen so far.

Since 2071 M37 series vehicles were made in Dec 1951, I'm guessing your deliver date is very close to mine. There are only 20 business days in Dec 1951, so 2071 vehicles means 103.5 vehicles per day average. Assumming they were all M37s (and they could have been M43s, etc.) 285/103=2.7 days. Since the 13th was a Thursday, and assembly lines normally were M-F, I'm guessing yours was delivered on Tuesday, Dec 18, 1951 at the earliest. Any M43s, V41s, etc., built in this time span might push the date out. But their numbers for 1951 were puny compared to M37s.

Also, what paint did you use? 319 for the M37 and 24087 for the M101?

Brian,

you are correct on the trailer color. The M37, was painted before I got it, but I did learn it was discontinued years ago.

Thanks for the interesting information on the trucks!

The 116 frames are great. Drop a pop up on one or build a custom tear drop.
I would go with a A2 axle with 8 lug hubs.

My before and NOW pictures.

Thanks for the info.

Scrapdaddy, does your M37 have the factory dash placques?

319 is actually not the correct color. The original factory color for an M37 built in 1951 is 23070, which Rapco and others carry. I'm painting mine in that color. It is a slightly darker semi-gloss version of 319. It did not last long, and most M37s painted in 23070 wound up being painted with 24087.

The problem with the current 24087 is that it is not the correct color. A change was made and it was known as 24087X, intended for helicoptors. The original 24087 color is actually 24084, but I have not found a source for it. The incorrect 24087 has a brownish tint to it, while the proper 24087 (24084) definitely lacks the brownish tint.

You can see a comparison of 23070 and 24084 here:
http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=23070+24084
Note that 24087 no longer appears in the current official milspec paint chart. Helicoptors are no longer painted with this color.

I have verified 23070 as being correct, because I disassembled some parts from my M37 that have never been taken apart. They've been sealed by gaskets and original white grease seal, keeping out light, moisture and air. I oversprayed half this part with Rapco 23070 and the colors were so close I could not find the paint line.

My M37 has been repainted several times with darker greens, all of which are variations of 24084. The colors varied in the 1950s. The engine compartment, though, was never repainted, and remains 23070.

If you want to try a spray can of 23070, they are $6.50 plus shipping from http://www.rapcoparts.com/index.html. They also have M37 parts.

Where would one go about finding an A2 axle? Auctions? Ebay? Craigslist?

Thanks.
