Holy crap, just got on BITD FINALLY!! Site was down all day! Satellite tracker shows them at milepost 236, moving at 1mph (yikes). Made contact with the team captain, John Rudzitis, they've gotten swallowed by silt beds twice now, so hopefully that's it and they can break out.

If you go to BITD.com, click on Race Tracking, then class 1800, then #1812 John Rudzitis! It'll show sat tracking of the team.

Any current news from the Dream Team, Dave? Right now they are doing 0 mph about 75 miles short of the finish line. :frown:

They were going kinda slow through much of the race. Can we assume they had spindle issues?

Update: They're on the move at 12 mph with 75 miles to go.

So, what's the story, Dave? The GPS still shows them about 75 miles short of the finish. Any word?

Word is, they blew the engine about 80 miles short of Reno. Good effort guys.

I can't say enough for the team: John Rudzitis, Mitch Comstock, Jay Fernan and Jerry Brown. My hat is off to them, they campaigned on a budget, a wing and a prayer and ALMOST made it. None of them had raced in an event like this before. They did superbly by anyone's measure.

The Total Chaos/Sway-A-Way setup was, on all accounts, simply superb. In the end a rock smashed the oil pan, oil was lost, and the engine went south.

To the team and sponsors: THANK YOU!

Dave

We did have skid plates, aluminum units. They were battered and bashed, and there is an oil leak, but it now appears that the cause of failure was dirt ingress into the engine via the air intake. Despite repeated cleanings and changes too much got by.

Here is a link to the truck's specs, parts, and photos. Plus, I have posted up two different sets of pages of 4WD Toyota Owner magazine, showing the actual feature articles on the build. PLUS then a couple race pics from Aug 23 BITD action. Enjoy!

yes, nice job guys great effort and best of luck for the next race.

wow good luck for the next race; i looked at the write up for the build of the fj but did not notice a snorkle? did you use one or just seal up the factory air filter. from te pictures of you 2 standing in front of the fj it looked bad like a whole dust storm. plus it looks almost liek talcum powder.

I saw you guys the other day driving up I-5 just before the bridge from Portland to Vancouver WA. I was driving my green 4 door Rubicon (lifted with a bunch of goodies) and I waved at y'all.
