Been in that area MANY times on my bike!

Check here for pics: http://www.yankeetoys.org/mangler/otay.htm

As you can see its basicially a VERY mild dirt road! We saw a honda accord up there as well as a ford focus.

Scenary is kickass, but if you are looking to use your 4x4 this wouldnt be worth the time.

Its fun on the bikes cause we haul serious ass, but in a truck, not so much! :D

Thats my .02

OK, Plan B.

I wonder why the other post indicated risk of roll-over, rear lockers, yada, yada?

Maybe I'll take the wife's corolla.

Anybody for a pancake rock run then?

Maybe its a different area that i havent been to yet.

I feel i have explored the hell out of that place, but ya never know.

If i can pull 60-75mph on my bike on 90% of the stuff there, i dont see it being a "Rollover Risk" :D

There is a hill coming down from the "facility" that is kinda steep and rough. For the most part, it's just like Kevin described it.

IIRC: the Otay Mtn Truck Trail right there also, although I have no idea how that is.

The rough part is the trail that takes you into the backside of Lower Otay Lake. It starts behind the prison at Otay Mesa. That's not part of the regular graded trail that goes over the mountain. Its tame compared to Carveacre, but like Carveacre its not maintained.

Is there area you are speaking of within site of the border fence?

I believe the trail in question is on the north side of the hill (airstrip side), but there is a trail on the south side that probably views the border fence. According to my map, it is also called "Otay Lakes Truck Trail", and heads up towards "Doghouse Junction". I think this is a graded road as well.

I may hit up Pacake Rock / Carveache this Saturday instead.

Feeler: Any interest in this? I want to be back by shortly after lunch (hmm, I've heard this before...)

As much as I would love to go because I haven't been out in SOOOO long, I won't be able to go. Just too much other stuff to catch up on. (head gasket to replace, steering to fix, moving, yard work . . . )

No worries. We'll catch up next time.

Steering to fix, you mean you broke, err, bent something??;)
