Well I cheated.

Rivers have been high and murky. Spent the weekend chasing brookies on the mountain streams without even a nibble. Spotted F&W stocking trophies in the Lamoille yesterday morning below the Fairfax Dam. Went back this morning about 200 yards down stream and hooked 3 nice rainbows and 1 brown on a zonker in 45 minutes. Not one under 14 inches.

No pics, but think this is going to be a good season.

On Monday I was down in FL packing up the car to head back to MA at 7AM. I look out at the tidal lake we live on and there's a mini blitz going on. My fly gear is packed and we're on a schedule so I grab my light tackle and just cast a few. I immediately hook up with a couple of Juvie Tarpon (30" or so) who strip of 30-40 yds of line before a few jumps 5' in the air. It took every bit of patience I had to put the gear away and finish packing the car.

I reminded myself that I'm headed up to Maine/Canadian border in a couple of weeks for a week long Fly Fishing trip. That was little consolation...

4 days fly fishing for brookies in Northern Maine-see first pic.
Only one thing marred the trip-see second pic.

Had a great weekend up in northern NH. My buddy and I fished the Saco, and pulled a bunch of nice browns as well as one beautiful rainbow trout. We also spent some time up on the Wildcat river and pulled brook trout after brook trout (all pretty small, but lots of fun) We also fished the Ellis river, but struck out...weather was pretty rainy up there this weekend so that may have been a factor.

Aside from the great fishing, I had my first 'rod casualty'...I closed a door on the tip of my orvis rod...snapped about 3" clean off. DOH. Then dropped my one month old Iphone in the Saco river trying to take a photo of the rainbow I caught...:bang:

Overall, a great weekend of fishing!!

Orvis is pretty good about replacing rods under warranty for 24 years despite the cause of breakage. Apple, not so much.

Been camping up in Evans Notch on the Maine NH border.
Went to the north end of the notch to fish the NH section of the Wild River.
Spent 1.5 hours at the same pool and landed 30 fish.
Mixture of Browns and Brookies. Most were 9-10" but had
2 that were over 12. Really good time!

Get back out there Dave, there's at least one fish with your name on it!

We have a cabin a little further north on the Rapid River. There's a damn next to the house that has great castings piers and awesome pools for wading in. I caught this Salmon last year. Heading up in July for a week to catch some more. Lots of Browns and Salmon and an occasional Bass that we have to kill. They are invasive and smother the Trout eggs.

The Rapid River? That's the body of water that's been on the top of my bucket list for a LONG time. It's only an hour and a half from my house, but I've been told it's difficult to find because of all of the logging roads in that area.

I know the way...but by boat is easiest.

Take a boat from South Arm Campground in Andover. Head north to Middle Dam. There's a dock there.

You can't really drive in because of the locked gates on the logging roads. You'd have to walk in a few miles off the Carry Road.

Would a bicycle get me from the Carry Road to the Rapid River?

Sure.

If you have the funds, the dam keeper is also a fantastic guide. He could probably pick up somewhere along the road and take you in.
