I’ll post up my current non-plated, all metal, Matt sourced key next to the zinc unit upon receipt. I’ll make sure to use the gold version as my primary. Thanks again, @ToyotaMatt!

Need advice:

I rescued an 1994 LC 80. It was dead. I have brought it back to life. It has potential. I’m keeping it for a while.

It came with one metal key, which does not appear to be original. Also, I have had to replace the back hatch. My truck is Toyota and the back hatch came off a junkyard Lexus with the Lexus lock cylinder on it. Obviously no key.

In order to get into a good key situation, is my best bet to just get the entire lock set (69005-6A260 I think?) or could I find the code get some new keys made and try to rework the rear hatch?

Thank you,

Edit: actually I just watched the video above and it looks so simple even I might be able to do it so I am just going to rekey the thing unless I hear strenuous objection.

hi ,

please clarify :

so I am just going to rekey the thing unless I hear strenuous objection.

- what is now the thing ?

- is the thing a LEXUS thing ?

- or the TOYOTA thing Variety ?

- all these things matter here , like all things Land Cruiser typically do , here in particular ....

I was referring to my truck as "the thing." My truck is a 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser. It is down to one key. But the back hatch is from a 1996 Lexus LX450, with Lexus badging on the lock cylinder, which of course is not keyed to match.

So I have acquired 69005-6A260 for $360, which (correct me if I'm wrong) is an entire lockset, including an ignition cylinder, door cylinders, and rear hatch cylinder with full set of keys. My thoughts are that by the time I get the original key code, get some new keys, pay a locksmith to figure out the rear hatch and install a new cylinder, I will be ahead with this kit and rekeying the whole "thing" (Toyota Land Cruiser).

Thanks,

a few recent Original Key
I have had the worst time trying to source a new key blank that is the same one that land cruisers originally shipped with without having to buy a new ignition cylinder or whole new lock set. Ive already got a new metal master key and metal valet key, but the one with a rubber head seems impossible. It looks like this:
View attachment 1738824 I've gotten really close, as the smaller toyotas of the time had the same style key but instead of the left side of the key blade being shaved down, the right side is shaved down and that wont work. So does anyone have a part number or can anyone get it for me?

Below are a few examples of both a custom made 80 series oem -themed key , and a few random super high end top shelf aftermarket ones as well , all fit the 91-97 full 80 series double edge cut key profiles and platforms globally .....fyi

- in particular , the Made in ITALY SILCA branded logo 80 series key blank below remains the highest quality level aftermarket key blanks for ANY Vintage TOYOTA vehicle platform , car or truck globally i have come across to date . i have these and have been using these for the 73-1990 FJ40 , 55 , 60 , 62 various double edge cut keys profiles now for many years , and they do not disappoint ....

- i am currently working on a new and exciting 80 series master key blank , kustom made to order to my spec's , original oem themed design logo text fonts & artistic design features cosmetically and metallurgy related , and to all the same top-shelf standards , that my reproduction 90999-00164 is currently ...
more on this topic as it progresses here soon ...

so here goes , something .................

- as of
2024 .........

- each and every single Lock Cylinder that gets mailed out of the Rising Sun Mechanical AREA 61 Skunk-Works Vintage TOYOTA lock and key :
" We make your Teq-Double-Edge-Cut-Saw-Tooth-Sabers-Dreams.......your daily reality.. 🔑

- will now have it's corresponding Factory Key Code , applied to it , using the exact TOYOTA Traditional way and the SST;s involved to do just that ....

- if by chance , the said lock cylinder has a factory key code already stamped on it ?

- when i re-key / re-code it , i will carefully Polish Down the location , and re-apply the new one , after i have just did my thing i do , to the inside of it .....

- that don't sound right does it ......🤣

well , that what is needed to be said , the way i said it so you can understand the bellow , and understand how and more importantly the WHY i am taking this period correct purer the purist OEM leap in leap-years step by steps ......

- because , i can think of ZERO reasons NOT to ? , and a million and 1 + reasons why i should have maybe thought of this years ago maybe ?

- well .....

- after much R+D googling this topic in-depth ?

- i have concluded , i will be the first TOYOTA Lock and Key Technician to apply the Correct Factory Key Code to a land Cruiser Lock Cylinder of any kind from or on and land Cruiser globally ......to date

well , up till approx. 11:30 last night E.S.T. ...... a new chapter begins , for all 1997 and older Vintage TOYOTA Lock Cylinders that i did this below , and now will get my paws on ! :D

So here are some hand Stamped examples

The early learning curve ones are first here at the top , the current skill set level and new sparky COBALT a sharp as sh#t dies on a active 80 series OEM ignition key lock cylinder im re-coding / re-keying for a fellow member …

Note : As I say and as I should always do , I have used the green masking tape to keep the factory key code topic confidential as always ..fyi

Lastly …

I have seen a few scarce examples of early 80 series that have the ignition lock cylinder TEXT / FONT a logo letting key rotation instructions in the BLACK ink format …

I can only assume the modern topic of : “ more profit / less is more and more cost more money “ That big corporate TOYOTA bean counters decided !

Well it’s a timeless OEM details that matter and matter do details to me and my professional mechanical artwork I mail out the door …

So , in addition to the 2024 key codes now all stamped out …

Every single OEM TOYOTA ignition Lock Cylinder that gets in my paws will be anointed once again with the Period Correct black octopus ink , by hand the traditional TOYOTA PLANT A11 way …

Happy new year …
