Would anyone be interested in running a GPS based orienteering course on the seventeeth of July, a Sunday, in South KC? I'd be willing to set up the course, a combination of walking trails and driving to different points ending up at a good barbecue place.

Gary,

I would be interested. Let me know if you need some help.

Scott

I think I can participate.. Got a cheapie GPS & Might be able to provide a second one for someone else that wants to participate as well. Or I can ride shotgun with someone!

I'll go ahead and set it up for that Sunday. I'm thinking about meeting at a place and doing a loop through the woods using a combination of points entered into the units and using the compass funtion. Follow that up with a ride over to a BBQ place with someone leading using a combination of map and GPS. DD trucks/cars and shotgunners welcome as there won't be any off-road and teams would be cool. Hopefully this can be a base for developing something more complex like the adventure challenge.

I'm going to go set up the trail on Wed. Just checking that the people who were interested were still planning on this coming Sunday.

I belive I have 2 GPS units that are battery operated.
Can attend, will provide second unit to anyone interested in participating.

I'm gonna try and make it.

Bob

Gary,

I think it should still work for me. Are you thinking about an afternoon event? I have one unit I can bring.

Scott

I was thinking about doing this in the morning around 9:30 or 10, was thinking it would be cooler. The time isn't that important to me as long as it isn't any earlier. There will probably be some shallow river wading as well if you want to bring sandals or just rollup your pants.

Meeting Location? Trying to get TrainRech up for the event..

Maybe someplace with breakfast? Like an Ihop or Denny's or something? Breakfast and coffee! Mmmm Food is good!

The start point would be Minor Park/Blue River just south of Red Bridge Road and Holmes. Not too far from where you work. I'll look around when I head out that way for a place that does breakfast. Assuming I can get the map I need in the next couple of days, end point would be at a BBQ place further north near I-35 for to make it convient for people to get home.

gives aerial view and topo if that helps? Sorry I"m not all that knowledgeable.. That's where Bob and kupe come into play!

Maps are handled, nother learning curve of the use of them. I'll find a spot to meet tomorrow when I'm in the neighborhood unless Eric knows some fabulous breakfast place near his job.

I normally eat here at work and I dont' think you want hospital food!
But if you all want we can use my employee discount! Dunno what type of breakfast they server on Sun tho..
There is fast food ish stuff round these parts.

Meet at Winsteads at the NE corner of Roe and 435 around 9:00 on Sunday morning. The park isn't far from there.

I reccommend long pants, high boots, and deet for good measure. Did that today and didn't find a single tick.... yet. Water too, killed a 2 liter Camelback without realizing it.

Sounds fun and interesting, but we need the time to get ready to go to South Dakota. Our county fair is also next week, and Alex has 4-H shooting sports on Sunday afternoon. Have fun ya'll.

Rob, Scott, Chris, Erik, Eric, Gary, Bob, Not a bad start!
I'm guessing we can all learn a ton to do this again! I'm loooking forward to actually using my GPS for more than a speedometer!
