Hi All,
A strange one - the oil warning light comes on in my dash randomly. It seems to come on also when I turn wipers or use window switch.
My oil levels are definitely fine.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

John

Remove the sensor, clean it, and reinstall with a new gasket. The float is hanging up.

Check your oil regularly with the dipstick and you'll be fine. You can ignore the light.

His problem sounds exactly like mine. I don’t believe it is the float hanging up. I can get mine to turn on by having a large electrical load. Like having the lights on and holding up a window switch. Not sure why that triggers it maybe a bad ground somewhere is my best guess

Check the connection on the sensor plug. Mines cracked on the sensor side so it doesn’t always keep a good connection my light goes off and on all the time depending on the terrain. It’s only there for people that don’t check their oil. I’ll admit the first time it came on it scared the #%*^ out of me. I had lots of leaks at the time.

Sorry to ask a dumb question but is the sensor located on the sump? Cheers

What kinda car? On the USA spec 1FZ, it is simply an oil level sensor. If unplugged, the light should not come on, if so the problem is the sensor, if it does, it's a wiring problem. In some cases, have had luck cleaning the sensor in the ultrasonic.

It’s a U.K. spec 1994 80 series

Meant to say it’s a turbo diesel
Then all of the above comments are off limits. We are all thinking the 1FZ-FE gasser.

you're having an electrical problem, not a sensor problem.
because the light can activate when you perform another action ( lights, blinkers, etc) i would imagine that you might have a poor ground connection somewhere in the wiring harness.

Not a huge issue right now, but it will surely only get worse. So i would recommend cleaning any and every ground connection that you have access to. The negative battery terminal is a great place to start, but you might need to get all the way into the instrument cluster to really make this problem go away.

if it's not a problem for you, there's probably not much harm in ignoring this light.

Thanks very much. It’s the only thing ‘broken’ in my cruiser. Maybe just take the bulb out :)

doesn't matter the fuel type, the sensor is located on the (US) drivers side of the block, just above the oil pan. Should be within a finger's reach of the starter, IIRC.
