All,
I dropped the fuel tank of my '86 BJ70 this afternoon to repair some rust damage to the frame above my right rear spring shackle hanger. To get to the frame, I removed the fuel tank and found a new rust damaged part. The fuel tank skid plate. It was essentially rusted through at each support strap [attached are a couple of shots of the plate]. Luckily, the fuel tank and straps had only light surface rust.

Now to the key reason for the post ...
Are there after market options to the factory skid plate to provide protection for the tank? Or has anyone fabricated a one-off tank protector?

Thanks for the help and ideas.

Check with Radd or the other CDN vendors. My BJ70 skid looked worse than that. I was able to source a used one:meh:

Thanks. I had that in mind too. First, I wanted to see if there were any after market options that would offer significantly better fuel tank protection (especially for approximately the same cost).

That is the part number that I pulled up too. However, listed price from toyodiy is $326.02. Where did you get your quote from? Thanks

It comes up on 1stToyotaparts at ~$187. And that will be IF they can get it. I constantly run into either none in the system or local dealers not wanting to bring in the weird parts sometimes:meh:

try Camelback Toyota in Phoenix.
