Depends on what a purchaser is looking for. If someone wants to do a 100% anal-retentive Concours restoration then they will have their work cut out chasing some parts. However, with presumably the original engine and transmission in place, whether a person aspires for that level of perfection or would simply like to wrench on a really cool, honestly rare, 53-year-old Cruiser and see it return to usable service, and assuming it truly is as rust free as stated, then I think the price is within reason.

But then again, I have been known to allow my obsession to blind sound reason.

Are you contemplating the purchase, Mr. Watters?

bumper isn't the older one. same i have on my 62. you'll be hard pressed to find one with bows and even harder pressed to find one with doors. if i can ever find someone to bend stuff up for me, i may finally be able to get my bows done, i've built templates off measurements in the soft top thread. then you need someone with a finger break to make the pieces over and behind the door. also in the soft top thread is drawings that mark a took years ago of an outline with all the measurements for door frames. i have a door available to me as long as it's under lock and key and full supervision, just need a fabricator :(

My obsession with land cruisers always blinds me when purchasing. That's why I've owned so many in such a short time.
I'd just clean this one up, get her running, and improve her as I go. She'd be a sight to see rocking some non-directions with that bezel!
That said, although in Germany, I might consider buying. ;)

Anyone have any of the old style seats? OR, could some of the later sets work, e.g. The bench setup prior to the three piece bench in '71?

I know those are cheaper and more easy to come by.

Daniel, I am actually buying a 62 fst this sunday.....with the bows and doors!!!! Dont know how I keep finding these, but want to build it with my son. Reality is it could be for sale? Dont know yet,but will keep you in the loop. It is a project but pretty rust free and has the original drivetrain. I have passed up a few early fst rigs because they didnt have the bows and doors,so this was a no brainer!! NO seats! so will need an early set myself!

Given your vast purchasing experience with these oldies, what do you think is a fair price for the cruiser in the ad, Whitey?

Like you said, if your not worried about a complete rig, then it looks like a good start( no major rust), I think 4500 might be a bit high, but these things are getting hard to find, so sometimes you have to pay up! I m almost always blinded from my passion for all things landcruiser!

Brian,
You always find the gems! Wait, are you buying, or keeping me in the loop?
I need to stay off the classifieds section. Or, at least finally get a nice LV! I have a soft spot for these old ones too! ;)

Never mind... Re-read your post!

I think I will regret selling this one, so it will probably become a long term father son project.

My two boys just turned 6 & 8. I look forward to father / son cruiser projects!

Back to early 25/40 style soft tops. For those with bows, has anyone reached out to Marshall (trollhole)?

Here is another in AZ. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/5060774289.html Personally I think it's over priced. Funny a few years back I picked up a set of early bows close to where this one is. I know they aren't off this one as that one was originally from south the border. It sold on eBay and went to Costa Rica. Seller still had the bows and soft doors cut down to half doors. Slowly putting together a early FJ40 soft top Johnny Cash style.

It was the one that was in Utah when listed on eBay. I bid on it but it didn't meet the reserve. the ad above showed it in Arizona now. He/she had it listed for $5,000.

Here is a pic - early 40 - VIN 1FJ4012804

It's pretty rough no doubt. Looks like it had at least the early FJ40 PTO at one time. A picture showed the early POT shifter but it was mounted on a mid 63 and later three speed with a floor shifter. Didn't look like the bezel was stamped. Believe it was also missing the tail gate. Not worth $5K with the amount of body work and missing parts.
