Below are some undercarriage photos from a midwest Toyota dealer I'm looking to purchase this 2021 LC HE from. I'd be an out of state buyer and would not be able to see the vehicle in person prior to purchase. Would this (minor?) level of corrosion concern anyone paying 90k-ish on a LC with 20k miles?

If you have time, wait. 90k for any rust is too much $ IMO

That is what I'm thinking, and I appreciate the feedback. While it looks to be just surface rust, it seems wild to accept that for 90k. I'm in no rush. Hoping for a slight market downturn on these if that will ever happen

Mid state rigs are generally rusty. I bought the one I’m driving now from a Chevy dealer in North Carolina sight unseen and had it shipped to me. I was lucky with zero issues, but I did the home work.

I had to put my brain on pause briefly to contemplate $90,000+ for a 3yo with 20,000 miles. After it restarted I thought for that price a stock LC needs to be in perfect condition and need nothing. Skip this one.

The market for the HEs is still kind of crazy. I looked at a 2021 HE close to home a couple weeks back with 28k miles and the interior was in rough shape (ripped headliner, dog hair everywhere, etc) and it sold for 89K. I wouldn't have even considered paying 80k for it.

Just a general comment: If you're willing to spend ~$90k on a vehicle, NEVER buy it sight unseen. It's better to avoid a catastrophe and buy a flight home, with your tail between your legs, than to get stuck with something that's a bad surprise with years of regret.

The rust in question isn't bad, but $90k is a lot for any rust at all.

I totally agree

There is a local guy who purcahsed 10 of these brand new. He sold 3 and cashed out nicely. He has 7 of them, with all delivery miles.
A wise investment, especially if he has some silver and gray ones in that mix. The one referenced above on BAT will definitely set a new record. I sure wish I'd have bought one back in 2021. The 10-20% above msrp some dealers were charging for a HE seems like a bargain now

Seeing that you are not going to find one "in perfect condition needing nothing" for $90k (just look at the BAT example above), if you want a HE today you have to be willing to pay at least $80kplus for a 2020 or $90kplus for a 2021. You should however look for a Cali, Texas, Arizona truck that guaranteed did not live in the MW or NE.

I bought mine last month - a 2020 HE with 32kmiles for $81k as a Texas truck the day the add went online. No rust at all (being in Texas its whole life), and interior well taken care. I had to compromise though with the exterior that had some grocery shop cart parking lot scratches, but for the mileage and being in Texas it was worth IMO. It is also a pearl white one, so scratches do not show much and I fully intend to use it as it was design for - offroad, overland and adventures with the family, not as a showroom museum piece. Pinstripes will happen anyway.

There are a couple options in Autotrader - check there.

Pristine examples just in BAT I believe and, again, be prepared to pay north of $100k.

The value just isn’t there for me to pay 100k plus for a low mileage example as I intend to drive it for as long as I’m on this earth. I’ve been saving for a while and hoped the LC 250 would drop the 200 market a bit but it’s done the opposite. As for BaT, definitely no deals to be had on that site for a LC HE, ever.

I’d be happy to find a deal on a clean one with less than 35k miles from Texas, California, etc. As you mention, when one comes available at a good price, you have to move quick. I want a white or gray one with no third row so those are a little more challenging.

Yep. The Prado being launched as "the new land cruiser" by Toyota simply does not fool the enthusiasts like us in this forum. It certainly has its appeal to some, but never as a replacement for the 200 or 300 series. The HE has the collectable aura to it as well, so carries a premium. To me, it was a must, but if that is not important to you, other deals maybe even easier/cheaper with base models.

Keep your eyes peeled and check Autotrader and Car gurus every morning. If you see one like you described grab the phone immediately and get in touch with the selling dealership. Ask for pics and a video. If it checks the boxes put a deposit right away. That is how I have done and in my case it was a Toyota dealer, so I was also able to buy it with the Toyota Gold CPO, which is peace of mind for 12 months or 12000miles (you can buy extended beyond that too) and new-car interest rates as well.

Took me months scouting the market, but it is doable and totally worth it. Good luck!

I’m with you, HE is the only way I want to go. I appreciate the tips, will certainly follow them and hopefully find one eventually. Enjoy your new HE!

Speaking of the devil... I was looking at this one before purchasing mine in Texas. Does not look bad pricewise, a bit more miles then mine but its a CA, AZ car and Gold CPO. Not sure if still available. Hope it helps.

121K is the bid with still six days to go. That is just bonkers, especially since this is not a third row. These late build 200 and 201s are honestly investments at this point since the V35A is still a dumpster fire of an engine until time proves otherwise.
